No one has the right to tell anyone else what to play or how to play it. Especially people whom I will likely never have the displeasure of meeting in game or in life. To suggest otherwise is flat out rude and my tolerance for it has been exhausted.

I think he's more or less trying to point out how FFXIV's community works.

We share a similar mentality. There are specific classes that don't seem to interest me, and there are those that really peak my interest. BRD and DRG are two classes I love in this game. But I also have WHM leveled for support. Guess who has to play WHM at every linkshell event (outside of the occasional time when I am not forced at a main event) and most times when I'm helping out other people? Yep that's me. I love playing DRG and BRD but I never really get a chance to shine. And the next class I've been asked to level is WAR or BLM, because if I want to do damage, I need to have BLM (Best DD in the game basically) and if I want to tank, I have to have WAR (Tank yadah yadah yadah).

The path to staying as DRG will be a difficult one for sure. I'm personally going to level what I want, when I want, because my playtime is very limited. Both of us don't need to have to switch to another class. But this community is very unwelcoming when it comes to min/maxing. Trust me, you're going to have fun trying to get into a Garuda fight as DRG.

Not only is it ultra-fun, DRG is effective at the Garuda battle.

I agree completely. Dragoon is an extremely powerful asset in Garuda.

However try convincing this community to take a well geared Dragoon over a well geared Warrior.

Personally for me, I have had no luck.

A tip for you that I have as a DRG (Any class really) is that before gear you should try and perfect timing of your skills, and positioning for combos, especially for fights like Ifrit/Moogle.

This will help you maximize your damage before upgrading your gear, and worrying about min/max str, pie, acc, atk or anything else.

Proper positioning, and being able to use a whole weaponskill combo almost as second nature as breathing helps on any class. Then, you just gotta start throwing your buffs in, upgrading gear when you can.

Try and get Chameleon, and Second Wind at least. Don't forget about Elusive Jump and it's generous emnity- effect. (Usually having chameleon and elusive makes me go from flashing red to yellow/green prior to memento on all moogles.)

And my final tip would be: If you aren't having fun playing it, or trying to play to suit other peoples needs, remember this is a game - our objective is to have fun!

Good luck with Dragoon, I hope you continue onward with as much passion as you have now.

Edit: I'm a gamepad user, used it all through FFXI, been using one since I was 2 playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive. Practice getting around, and don't forget you can go from the skill set on the left most slot, to the right (1 -> 0 as looking on a keyboard, and vice versa). With practice you'll be flying around that action bar with ease.

Thank you very much for the tips.

I'm EVER so slowly working my way to Chameleon, as I'm now realizing that that being I'm geared as far as I can without dumping 10+ mil in upgrades and/or raid gear, I'm starting to tear hate off of my tanks.

Looking at the GC spears have me considering GC Leve grinding, but being Gridanian has me hesitating to build the set just for the attack. I'll also have to find a way of getting more STR in my armor gear as my weapon takes me to my STR Cap (or just short of it.) Triple melded Felt Gloves is the cheapest solution at about 10 million if I can spot it.

Should be note that I stand by the policy that this game is balanced on a party of 1 of every job, doubling up on BRDs (and the last slot can be flexible anyways.) So there's really no reason to say "No you can't come on X job."

But more to the point I stand by LANCER. Once Lancer comes out with another job, I'll be pushing to be good at that job too. I tend to affiliate characters with certain identities. Like 'Hyrist' will always be a Swordsman who uses magic. (A Duelist.) Lin will be a Pikewoman and I'm not going to rip her out of that identity even if I'm not on a RP server. If it boils down to that, I'd rather just wait to 2.0 and roll another character that fits the motif. (Already have a character in mind for a Psychotic Mi'Quote Axe murd*ahem* Enthusiastic Mi'Quote Female Warrior.
