This is how people against this idea are like:

I think keeping the multiple iterations of all the various job-type glamours is a great idea.
Would a reasonable compromise not be to simply... keep gear as it is, but only allow players to glamour gear that they could otherwise wear? For example, I want to glamour the Warg Sarouel of Striking to my Ninja. My Monk is currently only at level 48, so that's not going to work. However, if I level Monk to 80, I'll be able to equip that piece of gear -- unlocking the ability to glamour it to anything I want.
Hell, you could even keep the level restrictions if you had to. If Tataru saw me yesterday in one set of clothes holding a spear, is she really going to stop believing I can wear those clothes if I show up today with a book?
Obviously, job artifact sets should be exempt, and classes shouldn't be able to gain stats from these sets, but I don't see any reason older/irrelevant gear shouldn't be able to be glamoured freely.
personally I be fine if they just gave us a none job restricted version of the sleeve shorting Republican Signifer's Fingerless Gloves/Ravel Keeper's Halfgloves of Healing. I swear it feels like at least every other day I come across some piece of chest gear that makes me go "wow this armor would be awesome if it didn't have sleeves but I'm stuck with them since I'm not magic dps or a healer"

I feel the same way about capes, coattails, and other dangling elements from gear. I LOVE the dancer artifact top... from the front. From behind? I hate the long tails with what looks like rug tassels. I wish those could be hidden.personally I be fine if they just gave us a none job retracted version of the sleeve shorting Republican Signifer's Fingerless Gloves/Ravel Keeper's Halfgloves of Healing. Why the devs and some players continue to be against this is still mind boggling to me. Especially considering most of the posts pro-all class glamour have stated they're fine with keeping AF sets job-locked for identity and theming. And for the folks who bring up the unasked for fringe case of mismatching weapons on the wrong classes, no one (or at least very few) are proposing that plus let's be honest there are already some weapons that toe the line or even cross it into other silhouettes at this point.
We aren't even asking for FFXI's style lock system which lets you glamour literally any armor piece as long as you've leveled the correct job to where it can natively equip it, we just want to be able to do what NPCs are allowed to.
Dancer suffers a LOT from the cowboy/tactician/ranger themed aiming items. Literally 90% of everything doesn't really suit a dancer.
Whereas Scouting gets a lot of items that would certainly suit better the job, given that Ninja shares a bit of archetype with dancer (nimble fighter that favors speed and dexterity).
XI did it, with "3 years of funding left"

How I feel about this.. isn't good because it messes with job identity by a long shot. Like I understand people already glam and look completely different from their job, but its when you see a Warrior wearing White mage robes; it doesn't feel right to see that.
I get the want for fun, more glam options, etc... but in my opinion; I don't think that is a good idea. I think they should just continue to bring out more outfits for everyone to wear like they been steadily over the years. It gives more creativity, and less confusion.
Job identity through armor only is already largely dead on multiple fronts and every player have their own idea on how they want their job respective jobs to look like. How I feel about this.. isn't good because it messes with job identity by a long shot. Like most of the game i have been playing Dark Knight wearing the orthodox armour. However when i play warrior i prefer a more laid-back outfit like a beach goer that someone have pissed off.
Ultimately we should have the same creative liberty when it comes to combining clothing as the devs themselves have.
