That's a pretty good point! That was actually something we never seen before, even the little interface indicator for it (padlock on top of the dye circle). I hope they share something about glamour tomorrow in the live letter!
So... I decided to post a poll on the FFXIV subreddit, here's as close to final results as I'll probably be getting. Went pretty well, I'd say!
In summary:
- people were fine with AF gear staying locked. DoH/L gear would probably benefit from being usable outside of its Job (perhaps via the online store? Korean players can currently buy Replica versions for All Classes).
- many agreed that the "class identity" argument is moot at this point, considering the sheer amount of equipment in the game and its reuse, sometimes on different roles (not a bad thing!). Many players ignore class identity altogether in favour of casual All Classes gear, animal costumes etc. and there are much easier ways to tell what Job someone is than trying to discern from their Glamour!
- some of them brought up FFXI's approach, where you have to have leveled the Job first to use its gear.
- a few of them proposed that current expansion gear remain locked, and only become available next expansion.
- obligatory glamour plate complaints, and bringing up the glamour log idea.
I think that about covers it?
FFXI is godtier with glaming. No glaming prisms, no restriction on glam set changes within non-town areas, you can stylelock any gear piece no matter your current job. How I wish this game gave you that amount of creative freedom.I wish they would do what they did with XI.
There was only one restriction on glamour (style lock), you had to be of sufficient level to wear it. If that was true, then you could use it.
Example, I am a level 99 WHM, I can glamour the level 85 WHM Empyrean Artifact Armor to my level 1 WAR. However, If I am only a level 1 WHM, I cannot glamour it onto my level 85 WAR.
It's already hard enough finding a specific role to use Aetherial Mimicry on when scoping out Limsa.
If it wasn't for job-restricted gear I'd be forever lost!

YEP this is needed at this point. Glamour is like the reason most people play this game anyway so open up new horizons for us please.
God, if only XIV could be like that. I still don't get why we're unable to glam outside of main cities.
Just look for a character in the skimpiest attire possible and has it dyed white, 9 times out of 10 they'll be a healer to mimic.
