and role restrictions should exist period when you think of a ninja, you picture a stealthy small person (not short but small) not someone walking around in a set of plate armor that a. they couldn't move in tbh and b. will make them automatically be detected
So I guess a tank in a bikini makes sense. Or a caster in armored outfits. Pretty sure I can make a cowboy dancer dancer. Reapers and DRGs in robes also exist.

Also if you think platemail restricts movement, you should take a look at this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-bnM5SuQkI

Platemail is no more restrictive in practice than a gambison or brigandine, which considering we've already seen ninja artifact armor in chainmail outfits as literally dev-approved "Ninjas wear this," would actually be quieter (A brigandine is scalemail plates riveted to a cloth vest, the moving plates make noise.)

Frankly, the only items that deserve to be limited to the role they started on is artifact armor and, of course, weapons.

Modern things taking a shit on things that shouldn't be changed?

Do you even understand what you're saying, much older games have offered this in both the RPG and MMOsphere.

While XI may not be the oldest MMO but it's an example of one that does, and is a direct lineage to XIV.(others can easily pull examples out if they recall them)

RPGS in general link back to TTRPG which we all know is about as open as players want.

[While going that far, is getting alil out of focus. It's all cause you claim it's "Modern", when it aint. The only thing that is common, is what each individual IP or Homebrew Decides. and XIV is down the line from a Game that Has unlocked gear.]
(They could of left it locked, yet they unlocked it. It exists, and can/likely will exist in XIV in some form)

As another user stated, credenum gear exists.
    (which was my point)

Players having their cake doesn't stop you from having yours.

(Which is why players like you should be asking for Hideplayers/HideGlamours.)

But you never offered middle ground or solutions which most players here are willing to discuss.

You just flat out deny the option.
(A Option that increases already existing, yet unobtainable choices that keep getting rebranded or offered as new alternatives. but not all that can be -offered-.)

[And while some options or middle grounds may cause other players to flat out deny them. Like with the Hide Player/Hide Glamour/Phase out into hidden-playerless view. Some will say, "ThEn WhY PlAy A MmOrPg". cause it's part of the fabric and part of the tide that raises all content/boats/systems.]

The clear wants of a "Glamour is Massive Endgame" MMORPG community dwarfs the Minority.

May as well try to discuss in ways, for options that'll allow you to have what you want, without having to deny others.

    Everyone can have their cake.

I agree with wanting jobs to *generally* fit certain aesthetics (though rare exceptions can be cool, e.g. a heavy plate armored white mage) but the idea of everyone being made to do so died long ago.

They're not going to add restrictions to existing gear and start adding unique gear sets for every job to every dungeon. Even if they did, many glamour sets would be impossible to categorize.

Removing the role restrictions from glamour wouldn't significantly hurt the job fantasy given the things that are already possible. It would however make it easier to create outfits that do fit certain jobs' aesthetics. For example; being able to use maiming-only plate armour on a Paladin, or being able to use certain pieces of scouting gear on a striking job.

These two legs are exactly the same except in different colours and the left one is undyeable. Why shouldn't I be able to use the right one on my Reaper?

This is the kind of stuff I care about mostly, too! I'm not interested in glamming other job's weapons or trying to trick people into thinking I'm another role [well maybe sometimes but I can do that now. I can use a Scythe and a paintbrush as BLM. I can even use a shield!] But I am interested in being able to use all variations of a specific gearset if I really like it's design/aesthetics.

But I am mostly motivated by being able to escape from the pervasive caster-cone silhouette. They cover up all leg and shoe slots and often have wide sleeves that also limit gloves meaning you can never show off other aspects of an outfit anywhere else on your character's body because it's all obscured. What are RDM, SMN and now PICT supposed to do with all these binbags? I can't even wear a big wizard hat, the defining BLM aesthetic, because I play viera so clarity of job identity can't be that important or they would have made viera/hroth hats a priority, right? >.>

When someone comes into the thread and posts something like that, I can't help but wonder: have they even played FFXIV? Have they spent more than a minute on Eorzea Collection or any gear database? (reading the main post would be useful, but that's beside the point.)

I'm more than familiar with how gear is in this game and I can assure you that there's an insane amount of sets (not even including the examples provided throughout the entire thread) that do not match their given roles whatsoever. This has been pointed out many times already.

You just can't expect to jump in with such a weak argument and be taken seriously.

To the original topic; no thanks. I'm happy with the current split of gear.

I think most ppl are missing the point that most glamorholics aren't after turning a healer into full fending gear but it's those little things like goggles from scouting only being able to use on a ranged for example or using boots or gloves that only healer gets on a tank for example to finish up a cohesive look. Or even take that pretty fending tiara to your healer...

But I guess that's hard to understand if you're just used to blindly follow the rules given to you instead of go out there and explore the possibilities of looking like an unique main character

The dresser does have the ability to alter the data of items being placed in it like when it removes signatures from items that were crafted by other players. So it would seem possible to change the item flags from only being useable by certain jobs to 'All Classes.' However, it would have to be able to undo that change when a player removes an item from the dresser, and it would have to ignore weapons, and off hands. There is probably some jank that makes this difficult, but it seems easy enough.

I know the new DoL/DoH sets were brought up a few pages back but I saw them and thought "Wow! These look so nice! Too bad they'll never see the light of day due to how restricted they are." But for real, crafters and gatherers always get such bangers for gear options and they almost never get used due to the combination of limited glamour plates and dresser space. Also I feel like I actually see quite a few people who don't even bother to glam their non-combat jobs and I can't say I blame them, not like you're gonna be wearing it that much.

Chloe Saunder is that you? Well, since you are a Goth/Evil/Dark/Grim/Emo aesthetics enthusiast.

So hey, what do you think about this dress?
