Til you're a healer or tank in a duty and you go to heal the bard or black mage , or use cover on them to save them, but you just used your ability on the wrong one because that bard wants to look like a mage , now the party wiped cuz you made a stink about dressing in mage af gear as a phys ranged

This doesn't make any sense lol. If you healed the "wrong one because of mage-lookalike gear" you weren't looking at health bars, which can be present on top of the character model as well. If you mis-used a Cover, or whatever single target mitigation because of the same reason, you also didn't look at any danger telegraph or health bar.

You got some pretty wild assumptions about stuff and no visible source other than you dwelling on it and fuming so ... I'm just gonna leave it at that , the game has bigger priorities to address than unlocking af gear , and I'll say again that second life is more suited tova lot of people's wants and desires than FF, should look into it

Literally who is clicking on the characters themselves to use an ability on them when the party list exists. Absolutely no one is gonna be paying attention to what someone is wearing in the heat of the moment like that and who even would be using that to judge what job someone is playing with all the stuff people can wear already? "Oh that person's wearing a chocobo suit they...what...I don't know what job that is!!"

EDIT: Oh and there's also the option to have job icons display next to someone's name anyway so...your argument holds as much water as a cracked glass.

Either give me an exact equivalent that can be shared amongst other jobs or unlock job glams & make them universal
I understand having a certain dynamic to a character, the appeal of classes only sticking to a certain look - but people in this game tend to use universal glams over job glams
And too, I'd like to be able to use the Copied Factory aiming hood on casters
Why casters were given a cool, frayed hood but forced with wearing a mask was a poor shortsighted decision

I'm with everyone else. Make all gear wearable by every job. I have this amazing green ranger glam but I can't use it on anything except paladin. I would put that glam on every job if I could.
