Wonder if any have made anymore of the Illegal Glamours to put on the thread.
(Aka, that one thread where you make a glamour in the try on window with a mix match of a bunch of glamour. Without the intent of using it, cause obviously restricted.)
and yeah, wouldn't doubt it if one wants to look at it in that angle.
it would give them the ability to make interesting sets on NPCs, but restrict us from accessing it, thus looking special, but it is not.
Of course True Glamourers can smell a rat a mile away.
I've only read the OP, and I am not someone who delves deep into glamour, but I see no reason to restrict pieces of gear for glamour, with the exception of AF gear (as mentioned in the OP).
Holy.. we sure popped off real fast! Good we're seeing so many more people in favor of this. Just goes to show how popular this change would be with the playerbase.
Role glamour restrictions abolitionist! For more details and to help us spread the message:

I've never been a fan of gear being so segregated for glamour. Especially when NPCs can be seen wearing mixed sets.
And before anyone complains about a class 'losing its identity', we already have stuff like full plate armor from PVP as glamour rewards that can be worn as even a White Mage or a Ninja.
One of my characters is a Buduga, but he can never dress up like the Buduga NPCs seen around Reunion; they wear the Nomad's Cap of Maiming, Nomad's Armguards of Aiming and the Sharlayan Pankratiast's Boots. That's Maiming, Aiming, and Striking gear all on one NPC.
It really feels unnecessarily restrictive and sours my RP to not be able to dress him up like the other Buduga.
Like lets say you want to dress up as a tribe featured in the game that practices magic. The chest and hands are universal, but the headpiece is aiming gear, and the legs are fending gear, the shoes are currently not available to players.
This tribe does exist by the way, the whalaqee. And its from them where you get a casting job. Even though when portrayed in the limited amount of cutscenes available, they wear fending and aiming gear.
I want to wear so much caster gear all the time but I don't play caster or healer.
Also while we're vaguely on the topic, can we degender more gear? I want to have more skirts on my viera boy.
Give us the glamour options, SE! We want to look fancy!
This was the default in Wildstar after they added the holowardrobe update, and it opened up so, so, so many opportunities. You could even wear other classes raid gear from your account on level 1 players. The only thing this did was increase the amount of options you had as a player to fulfill your personal style.
[Edit: Examples of my outfits I made for my aurin stalker (medium armor), most of these were mixed armor types and allowed me to cosplay for raid nights and such.]

We've long since thrown out silhouettes and class fantasy as valid reasons for avoiding this, and sets like the Replica Sky Pirate ones show us how versatile it is to allow cross-gear type glams. And, as others have pointed out, NPCs blatantly cross-type glam all the time. Literally this patch we have a swath of NPCs wearing gear from multiple sources. Zozone, the little lalafell, is wearing Striking, Scouting, and Healing gear all in one.
Let's make it happen, it's long overdue.

If NPCs are allowed to mix, and match gear from different roles, then players should absolutely be allowed to do so as well. Please remove role restrictions for glamors.
