Question About My Character's Name

I started playing FFXIV in May of last year and made my character a female Raen Au Ra. I wanted to make a name that fit the game's lore, and in the lore most Raen have Japanese names due to being from an area based on Japan (I am aware that there are Raen in other parts of the world who use different naming conventions). Instead of picking a name from the generator, I came up with a Japanese name not from the generator, Eri Amano. What I didn't pay enough attention to at the time is that Raen in the Far East are supposed to have Japanese names from the 16th to 18th centuries. My question is, does the name I picked for my character fit the lore? I'm hardly an expert on the Japanese language, let alone the Japanese etymology, and I wasn't able to find anything online saying when the name Eri started to be used. I asked on r/ffxiv about it a couple days ago and got some helpful feedback, but not a definitive answer. I know that most people don't name their characters with lore in mind, and that's fine, but I like to have something that fits because it makes me feel more immersed in the setting. At the same time, I kind of don't want to change my character's name because I've gone all the way from A Realm Reborn to Endwalker using it. This whole dilemma is probably going to sound silly to a lot of people but I can be kind of neurotic about certain things at times. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the name? Does it stick out from the setting too much or does it sound plausible? I'm hoping someone with greater knowledge of Japanese than me can offer some input if it's not too much trouble.

Based on what I can tell the name you chose is a bit too modern. As Eri seems to be written with more abstract concept Kanji like reason, blessing, or loving. And Amano usually means heavenly field, which doesn't really fit as a profession.

However, that doesn't mean your name can't exist in the realm of 14. As the lore page states there can be exceptions. And as Endwalker has shown us, the different races can have different names depending on where they live/grow up. So it is possible for a family of Au ra to have moved and gave their daughter an ethnic name, but one based on their choosing, instead of being a representation of the physical world or profession. Particularly, a Sharlayan Au ra family might do this.

Thanks for the feedback. The backstory I had in my head for her was that she originally came from Yanxia but moved to Eorzea as a teenager, but I guess I could always make changes considering I never really made her backstory too in-depth. Maybe her family was never super traditional.

Np. For what it's worth, I like the name, it sounds realistic. It might be more modern than the setting, but it doesn't feel too out there in terms of origins. And besides every name has to start somewhere. Maybe with everything that happened, her parents wanted to break tradition to give her a name based on things they hoped for, instead of what was right in front of their faces.

That's technically a more lore-appropriate name for a Hellsguard Roegadyn than a lalafell.
