    Summoner- Different approach to Bahamut and Pheonix Phases

    Hello Everyone!

    Since the latest rework of SMN and especially after reaching level 90 I find SMN not that much engaging anymore. The level 90 gem phases are fine I think but the Bahamut and Pheonix phases consist of too much one button spamming.

    I wondered how Bahamut and Pheonix phases would work out if instead of the button smashing on CD the base action would be a charging up sort of channeling. I haven't seen a post regarding that, sorry if another Post with that Idea allready existed.
    I'm thinking of a click and release channel that starts when hitting the button and accumulates damage up to releasing the button and firing the cast.
    Add a max threshhold for the damage with a bonus for max charge time reached and let the corresponding Egi fire scaling on the built up damage on release. The accumulation status could even be presented on the allready existing Gauge.
    This way the Bahamut and Pheonix phases could be more challenging and still to some extend as plug-and-play and action oriented as it is now.

    I'm not a developer and don't know how and if this could be implemented.
    What do you think about this Idea ?

    Thus far, there hasn't been a single skill that required players to hold down a button.
    So either it's tied to the so-called "spaghetti code" or it's a deliberate design decision.

    Hello!

    My main concern with this idea is that changing gameplay mechanics like this for a single job after the game's already been out for years could be a problem, it's best to keep that sort of thing consistent. I also don't think changing the way players hit the same button a few times per minute would add very much but that depends on the implementation, it could be interesting.

    You could accomplish something similar with normal cast times which would still be a slight improvement, like choosing between a lower dmg instant and a higher dmg cast (like Ruin 2 and 3 from previous expansions). Imo SMN needs more ability variety. Even having Phoenix go back to its 1-2 combo from ShB would be better and nothing needs to be added for that.

    You only need to press it once to get the shield to come up, so there's something else going on here.

    Agrias shields are just you press the Duty Action button and get a buff that stays until you move. It's the standard channel mechanic used by Passage of Arms, Collective Unconscious, Improvisation, etc.

    2 sets of summons. Bahamut(Ifrit,Titan,Garuda), Phoenix(Leviathan, Ramuh, Shiva)

    Give Bahamut and Phoenix their own buttons. Utterly simple IMO. Make the job less restrictive and you still can choose between whether you want DPS or Utility.

    Carbuncle should only be relevant prior to Dread trance. The rdps utility as well as the shield should always be available to use regardless of what you are doing. Should not be locked out during summon attacks or during Bahmaut/Phoenix.

    And you can't really argue button bloat if Summoner has nothing to press anymore.

    I still disagree with this idea.
    If the dev' team ever get back to work on (and completely overhaul) the Egi glamour system, we could potentially have Egis/"gemstone" summons out of every Primal we faced beyond the ARR ones, even if they worked the same way "mechanically".
    Even better if that allowed us to use summons with elements outside our current Fire/Earth/Wind ones.

    I would agree with you there. Before they had glamours to our summons which would be heavy cost, they need to fix SMN gameplay first. Gameplay is the most important part of the fun.
