Why do the forums still have daily post limits?

I don't understand this feature. It seems extremely counter intuitive of the point of a forum and just pushes people to go to unofficial places like discord or reddit. You can't have any real conversations here when you have to pick and choose what you post/reply to.

It's an archaic system designed to prevent spam.

So some of you angry people don't flood the forum with 50 threads in 2 minutes.

SE views the forums as a means to give feedback more than build a community.

So, post limits makes sense in their mind because it limits spam (nevermind it's not been an issue for a long time) and you don't need many posts to say "I think X about Y."

Of course, it falls short if you actually have an enjoyable chat back and forth in a hangout thread or otherwise participate in something more community-focused, but what kind of weird person would use the forums for that?

With the sorts of trolls we get here it should probably be more limited than it is.

Sure...for new accounts maybe. Moderation would take care of the rest for older accounts. Its not 1.0 anymore, these kind of restrictions are just silly.

If I remember correctly, both the daily post limit and the post character limit come from the days of 1.0. Not because of poor coding, but rather as a deliberate thing because of the dumpster fire the NA forums were at that time and how abusive people were getting. So they added those as a blanket of measures for everyone, which is about the norm for how things like this are dealt with. Just like housing, we can't have nice things because we've proven that we can't be trusted with said things.

People will behave badly when they know there are no consequences; so, limited to just 10 troll posts a day? That's how we get 68 pages worth of bait thread on the first page for weeks.
