The purple scrip crafting gear....why??

You must be new since its always been like this every expansion. You get craft/gatherer job "artifact" gear, then you get your endgame craftable gear and then you get your all purpose craft and gathering gear (which is still not as good as the craftable set due to less meldable slots). Besides I love the purple scrip gear set because they all look unique for every class so I just been using them for crafting/gathering glam anyway

That's the whole point of "artifact" gears, they were, are and always be for 1 specific job. What you're saying is like saying "sugar is needlessly sweet" while that's basically the whole raison d'etre. These, together with the DoW and DoM set are supposed to be "iconic", the face of the job for that expansion (notice how the class specific NPC always gonna wear their artifact set in trailers and such).

I'm still using most of the Shadowbringers ones as glamour plates for my crafters.
That's ... pretty much their only use, and always has been.

As others have said you only use the Purple Scrip Gear if you have no interest in attempting to Penta-Meld your gear.

Otherwise, the crafted gear that allows Advanced Melding is better hands down, but you have to deal with RNGesus.

Iconic such as being mostly gone follow one patch. Also fairly certain one of the alchemist "Artifact" is the generic go to outfit for scientist npc, which should have had an overlap with sage and scholar, but no it's restricted to only alchemist because arbitrary reasons.

Part of me desperately wishes there was a "combat" version of these crafter/gather artifact gears mostly because imo a lot of the designs are so much more appealing than your usual armors. I would love to do a dungeon looking like the lv.80 Botanist or Miner lol

But naw I get the reason they dont do that for artifact gears is because it kills the "class identity" for what they're going for. At least there's quite of few combat versions of some of the crafter/gatherer craftable gears but yeah it would be nice if there's was a tiny exception.

Every class get AF gear and this includes DoH/DoL and they get theirs through collectable tomes. I think the only set that didn't do this was ARR where you had to craft the gear yourself.
