Increase weekly tome cap, decrease token amount

I know this is going to go both different angles. Isn't it time that weekly tome caps be at 900 for now on or something a little higher then 450 a week? How about savage tokens why 8 for one piece of gear if you are unlucky when you can shorten it to 4 or less?

Extreme trial tokens shouldn't be 99 to get a mount make it 50 isn't 99 WAY to much of a fight/grind to be going after? This 2022 almost 2023 I don't think being time gated is a way to keep going maybe that was late 90's early 2000's but let's be real here. It will not kill the game to let them get things sooner. The argument it would kill the game is not really a logical excuse people will still play the game and content will always keep going.

Making content is hard and Square needs something to milk raiders for their subs for 8 months.

People dont like it....but its a design choice that keeps players playing.
The faster you get what you want/care about, the less time you play.

    "Just make more content"
Well 2 issues, we would have much larger content droughts because theyd have to take extra time to develop it, and NOT releasing it until they finish everything and then release it all at once.
And even if they DID do this...there are people who have nothing better to do and spend all hours in a day playing the game, and will run through everything in a few days or less.
So this is a better system.

They've already cut tomestone costs where it mattered most, which is taking the cost of weapons from 1000 to 500 tomestones. Simply increasing the weekly tomestone cap also doesn't address the actual bottleneck when it comes to tomestone gear, which is the items to augment them.

They've effectively already done this since the release of Diamond Weapon EX. That trial, along with EX3 and EX4 of Endwalker all drop two totems each. Although for some odd reason, this change did not apply to EX1 and EX2, which both drop 1 totem each.

Yep. I definitely spend 8 months happily grinding tomes just to gear alt jobs. By the time I finish 3 jobs (including my main), the tier will be long dead and irrelevant but that doesn't matter. I never get bored of grinding tomes endlessly and certainly haven't ever lost interest after gearing my main and practically dropped the game for the rest of the patch, ignoring that tomes even exist. I love that if I want to test an alt job in Savage for reclears, it's a 2-3 month ordeal to catch them up to my main and that isn't discouraging to me in the slightest.

Oh yeah, they did do that. Forgot.
I was kinda shocked because I was doing the math on gearing, and then seeing the weapon cost less this time made me happy.

I've said this on the thread about the loot system for endgame gear, but I'll state it here as well. Players should feel encouraged to gear multiple jobs, but the current loot system doesn't allow you the time to properly gear more than a couple job reliably. It makes sense to have the gear system be restrictive at first, but it should gradually open up to allow you to spec more jobs over time. What I would like to see from this system:

    Tomestone Adjustment:
    - The new tomestone currency is released during the even-numbered patch with a cap of 450.
    - After 4 weeks, the cap is increased to 600
    - After 2 more weeks, the cap is increased to 800
    - The cap is removed at the launch of the odd-numbered patch.

    Savage Book Adjustment:
    - Tier 1 Books - Accessories - 4 Books are required for your first purchase. All other purchases require 2 Books.
    - Tier 2 Books - Hat/Hands/Feet/Coating - 4 Books are required for your first purchase. All other purchases require 2 Books.
    - Tier 3 Books - Pants/Coating/Twine - 6 Books are required for your first purchase. 4 Books are required for your second purchase. All other purchases require 2 Books.
    - Tier 4 Books - Weapon/Torso - 6 Books are required for your first purchase. 4 Books are required for your second purchase. All other purchases require 2 Books.

These changes would retain having a more prominent bar of entry when a savage tier first launches, however, as you complete your reclears, your ability to gear up additional jobs becomes much faster and more reasonable.

Case in point, I'd actually love to go into PF now and learn to heal this tier. What's that, nearly every party has an ilvl requirement well above what I can obtain because I only finished gearing my tanks last week? What about Savage drops? You mean that one extra foot coffer I managed to get. Oh, I do happen to have a Leg coffer. Too bad Piety is such a garbage stat it's actually better to pentameld the Rinascita set which are 20 ilvls lower.

While I do think doubling the tome amount might be going too far in the opposite direction since, yes, they do need some way to keep people running content, there needs to be some give here. By far my most enjoyable periods of Savage raiding are prog, optimization and when the tier unlocks. Frankly, a decent enough middle ground might just be moving when they unlock Savage further up. 6.3 or 6.35. It also sucks that most parties want two coffers and you can't join those if you've cleared for the week. That's another system that could do with some tweaking.

It's the classic Yoshi-P moment of "you can unsubscribe and take breaks" but when you look at how timegated any progression is, the actual number of resets in an expansion you can't play for is actually very low. That is part of the business case of making a subscription MMORPG but it's kinda frustrating for to get full tomestone gear for one job, and then upgrading to savage equivalent item level once the alliance raid comes out, you have to play every week for almost an entire patch cycle.

I'd argue it's also a really prominent example of the game not being alt friendly. Want to maintain a character for another region (until we get DC travel across regions)? No catch up, full investment. Want to maintain multiple jobs that are well geared but don't share equipment type? You're out of luck. Now you could say some of this isn't necessary and HQ crafted gear is fine... but the choice of gear should still be there and gearing up really doesn't need to take this long.
