Basically. For gathering bis I lost 56 grade 6 perception…..all at once. They were 10k a piece.first if your raid group needs or demands pentamelded gear something is seriously wrong. Also here's an easy way to experience pentamelding without lvling crafters. Take your entire stash of materia doesn't matter how big it is because it still won't be enough. Then throw them all into a fire or something. Now you've burnt all of you materia and accomplished nothing. Congratulations you've experienced pentameilding
Pentamelding! Cheaper then raiding!!!! *sarcasm*
My raid static made all our gear and penta melded it without any gil expended. Just...... a lot of time.
A single hunt train is worth about 36 grade X materia and 72 IX materia. But it'll take you two hours.
I've been doing Leveling Roulette and Alliance Roulette on in-demand classes, that's another 2 grade X and 4 grade IX materia daily.
Expert roulette? Rains materia like candy.

I can kind of agree, you shouldn't have to craft and gather to over meld, and having materia for crafting / gathering is kind of stupid.
I was hoping this thread would be more about the materia system in general and how it is over all just kinda crap.
It is weird to me that crafted gear is able to be pentamelded while raid drops are not. It sadly makes everything you did before a new savage patch obsolete because pentamelded crafted gear in most cases is going to be the better option.
The material in general is a boring RNG system that could be a lot more interesting and fun.
If you ask me how it could be more interesting and fun, I don't know it's not really my job to figure that out it's Yoshi P and his teams job.
Well that’s basically what you get when you try to make a carbon copy of WoW PvE without knowing what you’re actually doing. The whole “endgame” PvE in this game should be scrapped and the resources allocated to more side stuff, as it’s not really good.
I can tell you right now that if you want to stay on the cutting edge of gathering, prepping gear is NOT cheap. I've estimated from my own experiences that getting a guaranteed pull of 2 1000 quality reducible items from an ephemeral node for the cost of 400 GP, requires somewhere around 3600 Perception and at least 3000 Gathering. To get that much perception, you have to optimize, use gathering food, and pentameld the hell out of your gear.
Yes make it so others can't do it and they'll have to level crafters for themselves.
And seriously they've made it easy for penta melding now that you don't have to do the melds one at a time and fail and keep going until you get one that sticks. It's pretty easy for someone to do it for you now as long as you have the materia.
Lol, then go back over to WoW cause I guess they are doing it right with the daily x resource grind. I think the end game is bad in FFXIV, but I think the end game in WoW is worst.
That is just about the cringiest thing I've read in years lol. I've got two characters to max crafts along with many maxed combat classes. I see plenty of others also who craft and are also extremely good performers in combat content. Just because some players also like crafting for fun or glamour doesn't mean they are beneath you on some imaginary "elite kool kids only club" gaming ladder. That's just a really gross and degenerate thing to say about your fellow players. Really gross. As far as I'm concerned, crafters and gatherers shouldn't even be in the game. These are jobs made for people who are so inept at the combat portion of the game, that they dedicate themselves to the trades in game whilst not being able to change a light bulb in real life
It's basically crafter welfare. Most MMO try some form of it, to force people to be customers to the crafters. It's one of the things I really dislike about FFXIV is it makes crafters mega-rich compared to everyone else.So the new tier comes out and you want to do damage to the bosses. Right? Wrong. The ability to pentameld is locked behind unnecessary side quests and gatekept by the gil markets. Seriously. Has anyone ever questioned why you need CRAFTERS and GATHERERS so you can overmeld on COMBAT CLASSES? It's just a timesink that punishes people who want to do real content instead of blowing away their subscription time on garbage. Imagine you have your driver's license and you want to drive a car, but before you could even step into a car you had to learn how to learn how to play the violin. FFXIV is a world where only violinists can drive cars, and the actual racers are left taking the bus. And when you dare to point that out, all the violinists say "well it's not fair! Go learn to play some Vivaldi!!!". So you go "ah well, might as well look at a youtube tutorial on how to play this thing" and you realize that the violin is more expensive than your rent. It's prohibitively expensive to even get things melded. Seriously, it makes no sense to brickwall the people who want to actually play the game instead of jumping through pointless hoops. Solutions are to
1) Divorce pentamelding from non-combat classes, and give it to people who reach the level cap of an expansion OR
2) Make materia drop from current extreme trials and normal raids. When you clear a savage fight of the tier, then you're 100% guaranteed to have the overmeld go through.
It's strange how people don't like dealing with crafters...well...it would be strange if most them weren't effing thieves. in their pricing. (of course they try to dress it up as "muh supply and demand")
