Device manager > Software Devices > Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator
Disable it. This, in all my years of playing, is the only single thing that has stopped the random drop behavior, for this game. Across multiple machines, both wired and wireless/bluetooth and many different controllers.
But you said you already tried that.. so idk sorry.
Edit: The behavior was exactly the same as what you had described though. Random drop outs for a sec or two.

No, not for the controller. I'm one of the ones suffering from the game deciding to drop the audio and force my bluetooth headphones to disconnect.
This is a very common problem for people who have games installed from MS Game Pass on PC. For years now controllers in FFXIV will freeze for a second or two whenever device manager detected that a device had been added or removed. You used to be able to fix this by disabling the MS Device Association Root Enumerator in device manager but this doesn't work for the new problem. For whatever reason MS installs its Game Pass games to virtual drives which it will periodically remove. Whenever one of these removals happen it will cause the device manager to refresh which causes FFXIV to freak out.
You can confirm if this is the issue by opening the event viewer and then expanding Windows Logs and clicking on System. You will likely find a bunch of warnings with the message:
"Disk X has been surprise removed."
With timestamps that correlate to when your controller locked up. Funnily enough there is actually a Quicklauncher plugin that fixes this issue but most people on this forum will try to convince you that mods are bad and that you should never install them no matter how helpful they are![]()
Yeah I've noticed this happening as well since EW dropped. It hasn't gotten me killed yet but when it happens it's very noticeable and only happens with XIV.
Oh, okay, I thought my controller was on the fritz or something. Good to hear it's not just me! (and I guess I don't need to get another one then. phew!)
I use a wired (not wireless) horipad 3 ps3 usb controller now.

I've been noticing this quite a bit for the past few weeks. Sometimes I can't raise a player and have to ask someone else to raise because the input isn't working as it should. Sometimes it's the B button not working on the first go. It's throwing me off and making savage content a real pain. I can't attempt Ultimate with this as it is. I thought it was the batteries at first but they're fully charged and the replacements all are. I use steam overlay for FF14 stand-alone with xbox extended controller suppport (the latest xbox controller, whatever it's called).
I have an Xbox series X controller and it refuses to work via Bluetooth. Firstly the buttons are all mapped incorrectly, so I calibrate it and then the screen wanders around if it’s own volition. To put the cherry on top pressing L+R doesn’t work either.
SEs response to me was “use a wire because 14 doesn’t support Bluetooth devices”
That's not part of this issue but I'll answer your issue. You have two options. Either you download the xbox controller app from the microsoft store to give you the ability to use the controller to any game (which FF14 won't do because they don't provide the drivers for it, that's a microsoft thing) or use steam overlay and configure FF14 to use it. If you want to be able to use the extra buttons on the controller, install the extended controller support for xbox elite controller or something like that. You can use the share button on the controller for anything in the game. It works great!I have an Xbox series X controller and it refuses to work via Bluetooth. But going back to the topic at hand, Square Enix doesn't provide the Xbox driver because that's not their job. Steam provides it because you tell it to download it and configure it for you. Also you don't have to run steam in full screen mode, it will just launch it as an external application and give it support automatically as long as you configured it.
I've had this problem on and off for a long time. I completely reinstalled windows right before Endwalker and didn't install the gamepass app specifically because of it. So now I'm paying for gamepass on PC and not using it because I want to be able to play FFXIV. Although, I have still noticed it happen a few times, but it hasn't been nearly as bad. Before it was like every 30 seconds my controller would get stuck for like two seconds and the game was barely playable. Now it almost never happens and doesn't hang as long when it does.
I use a wired Xbox controller on PC. I don't think the type of controller matters, it's just the way the game responds to the device manager refreshing.
