Friends stranded in Mt. Gulg for 10 minutes, In Progress healer didn't help

My friends lost their healer due to a disconnect. They had been waiting for a new one for ten minutes. I swapped to heal, set my party finder to In Progress, and queued for Mt. Gulg.

After a full minute of waiting, it tried to put me in a fresh instance of Mt. Gulg instead.

So I withdrew (apologies to those who I guess got it in roulette), waited another couple of minutes after that..... and tried it again.

And got another fresh instance, after about a minute. I assume if it was someone queued specifically for Mt. Gulg that needed only a healer, it'd have been instant, but there was a full minute of being queued for Mt. Gulg and nothing else, and there being 0/1 tank, 0/2 DPS, before filling all at once.

Another person in our linkshell tried again.... and the same thing, but he rolled with the dungeon rather than abandon, since he needed exp anyway.

They eventually abandoned their in progress dungeon after waiting for 15 minutes, with no replacement healer able to reach them. They assumed they had glitched out.

Does the Duty Finder matcher not prioritize Party in progress that is recruiting to try to replace lost team members?

(We are on NA. All four of my languages are checked because I've done rescue/replacements before and I know that's one of the things DF may check. So I shouldn't have been locked out for language. Party in progress was definitely on.)

Had the leader of the party put in the request to fill the party?

It doesn't happen instantly when someone disconnects or leaves mid-instance.

Edit to add: Yes, an obvious question, but sometimes in the heat of the moment the obvious stuff gets forgotten.

seen a similar issue many years ago.

theres some weird stuff with duty finder.
i remember queuing up for leveling roulette on BLM Lv52, and my friend was a Lv52 BLM. i had more dungeons unlocked than her, and i was in queue for 20mins. she logged on, starts up her queue, and within 5mins gets in, and i was still in queue. my queue wasnt "broken" because 2 minutes later I got in a different group.

over the years ive seen this same situation play out, but the person who gets in quicker was sometimes me, sometimes the other person.

I think its similar to how u sign up for multiple dungeons, and it cycles u through them, and only stops if the group fills.
an example: i was healer, and my friend was tank. we were both queued for the 4 floors of a normal raid tier. (we were not in the same PT, we queued separately)
it would show 1/2 tank, 2/2 healer, and 4/4 dps in 3 of the 4 floors, and mostly 0s on the 4th floor. my friend was in queue, and it said it was waiting on the healer.

problem is, it was cycling us around different floors, waits a minute, then jumps to the next. always missing eachother.
ive seen this a few times. the only way to fix it, is to cancel, and re-enter after it switches which group its currently checking on for a minute. and eventually u catch the same group.
(ive also seen this as a DPS, waiting on just ONE floor, seeing 2 tanks pops in, right as 2 healers go to 0/2. 1min passes, and it flips, 2 healers, but 0 tanks. repeats for 10minutes. then 1 tank gets in, and as soon as the 1 tank is in, it instantly fills the 2nd spot)

so... yeah... its weird

Yes, I keep it on by default anyway since I don't mind filling in for roulettes, but I double checked before I queued.

Occasionally the DF matchmaker seems to lose people or parties.

There's also those occasional screenshots that show someone waiting for 999 minutes (for like, regular content, not some old extreme).

Can confirm this happened in FC today. They lost a healer at the last boss, registered for a replacement and several of us tried to queue as healers with "Join Party in Progress" ticked for the same instance to help out, but only got offered fresh runs.

I'd submit it as a bug.

Have you tried to check your language preference settings ?

because, as example, if a party in progress need a healer, and they all have french as their language and the helper doesn't have french language in his language preference settings, he won't be queued with them even if he choose to join a duty in progress.

think about it, mark any language to maximize your chance

I only have English enabled but frequently get thrown into all German or all French parties. And yes, I'm speaking of both my DF and my profile settings. I even got thrown into all Japanese parties a few times, although that is extremely rare on EU.
I can't find the source but I'm pretty sure it has been changed ages ago that language setting don't mean you won't get partied with players that have different languages enabled because it caused problems for a long time with people disabling French because of their bad reputation ingame etc. and queues to be too long because of the language split.
I've also frequently got thrown into parties in progress with everyone having languages enabled that I had not.
