    Dye armor

    Hi!
Complete newbie question - I'm starting an alt, and taking the opportunity to do everything I hadn't had time to explore.

How do you dye a blue/job armor?

I'd never paid attention to this before, but it seems to be possible. Did I miss a crafting quest?

    Thanks!

    Complete the quest:

to unlock the ability to dye weapons and gear.

NOTE: Not all weapons or gear can be dyed.
If a gear piece or weapon can not be dyed, it will both have the description text of "Dyeable: No" in it's item window and no option to dye via the right click menu.

Normally, if you see someone with a gear/weapon that is dyed, but it seems the piece isn't dyeable, it is likely they are using a gear/weapon that has the same base appearance as the non-dyeable version, of which can be dyed.
So, look at the item's description window to make sure it's name.

I think they're specifically asking about the job-specific artifact gear.

The ARR AF1 gear (Lv45/50) comes in three versions: the IL50/55 gear, the IL90 AF1+ recolor, and a third version that is dyable. You have to have an Alchemist craft the appropriate augmentation kit and then take that along with the original gear to Rowena's castle in Mor Dhona to trade for the dyable version.

The HW AF2 gear should be dyable as soon as you get it from the vendor since they only sell the upgraded dyable version now.

    SB AF3 requires doing Eureka.

ShB AF4 requires doing a certain trial extreme (the one that doesn't drop a mount):
    Memoria Miseria

EW AF5 requires completing the related role quest line.

Depends on the set. The level 45/50 set, you have to trade in the gear piece with certain augment items to an NPC in Mor Dhona. You can either craft or buy these augments off the market board. The augment will be called either X Armor Augment or X Attire Augment, X being the name of the set you are augmenting (Gallant for Paladin, Healer for White Mage, Wizard for BLM, etc). I assume that's what you are looking at right now. Also be aware that once you finish your job quest, you get an ilvl 90 set that looks similar to the other set you got but with a different color scheme. The ilvl 90 set cannot be dyed.

    For future reference:
For Heavensward set, it should come naturally dyable now. You used to have to augment it I believe but not anymore.
For Stormblood set, you have to go to a special endgame zone called Eureka. It'll take some grinding but you upgrade your armor multiple times and then it becomes dyable.
For Shadowbringers, you have to do a specific extreme trial tied to an endgame storyline. To access that storyline, you have to also do the Stormblood alliance raid series. The extreme should be simple enough to unsync, but it's a bit harder to get a party together for it compared to other EXs as it has no mount, just the dyable armor.
For Endwalker, you gotta complete the role questline attached to your class. Once you do, you can dye the armor for any job within that role.
