Regarding Yoshida-san's Recent Message to Fans

To the Dev Team of FFXIV,

I completely understand how it feels to do your absolute best and still have others yell and cuss and generally be nasty, and this little Lalafell is here to tell you that I'm so proud of what the team has accomplished and in such a relatively short amount of time with the new audio and wonderfully engrossing content. Sure the audio starts bucking like a wild Chocobo at times, but that won't stop Al from finding the silver lining and encouraging others to do the same. ( ' v')9

Yoshida-san gave a message for the verbal threats etc directed at his colleagues and himself to cease - and I couldn't agree more.

I can guarantee that any and every player who has ever started out tanking or healing and not having a clue what to do has experienced what I'm alluding to.

Picture this, you're going into a new dungeon/raid/fight determined to do well even though you aren't that competent a player yet and along the way you make a mistake that leads to a party wipe.

You did your best but came up short, and now suddenly you're being harassed for being a bad tank/healer even though it's a class you love. They call you various obscenities, tell you to quit playing - or in one personal experience, one even went so far to tell me I should commit suicide.

Didn't really feel like ever playing again at all, did you?

This is what I imagine exactly what the dev team is currently going through. This is their new duty/dungeon/primal fight and they haven't gotten it figured out yet. Mechanics still aren't clear, the tank isn't sure where best to use defensive cooldowns, and everyone is still getting used to the fight.

How many of the PUGs have you been in which one or multiple people have been abusive, were actually successful? Or did you give up entirely and leave because people wouldn't stop being so hateful and negative?

Tanks, how many times were you harassed for not keeping aggro or forgetting your tank stance?

Healers, how many times were you harassed for letting a party member die because you accidently cast the wrong spell, or forgot about a tank-busting mechanic that led to the tank - and by extension, the rest of the party - wiping?

Are you honestly going to sit there and do the exact same thing? Shame on you. >:T

Yes, there are some things wrong right now. Yes, most of the complaints are justified - but most people don't realize the complexity of what they're asking.

I don't care if people flame me for this or whatever, do your worst if you must but this whole cycle of abuse/harassment has got to ease up. Doesn't help anyone or anything.

I'm taking a stand and calling for others to do the same because I know how it feels to do your best on something you love and still be treated awfully for it.

I got 18 years experience in US retail, and I can tell you yes yes I do. Throw up 80 cases an hour and have your boss still throw tantrums because despite every one doing 60% less than you, you're supposed to find some superhuman way to increase your CPH to 120 so you can do the whole thing by yourself, oh and also have your previously-scheduled-for-tomorrow-off moved to the end of the week instead.

Also getting Employee of the Month for 3 months in a row isn't a big enough band aid for the things you're told even after working 70+ hour weeks and having it amounting to nothing when half the crew is schedule off and you are staring at a nice load of 2500 items to put on the shelf.

The new audio system is a bolted on third-party pile of rancid chocobo poop. SE didn't even write it, but I darned well wish they had skipped over adding the hooks for it. It's done a lot of damage to a lot of people's sound and it sounds worse than a 1930s gramaphone player.

In FF14, none. Seriously. If you are finding so many people are being abusive to you, you likely need to look into your heart and see if your own attitude can be improved. I am sorry to hear people are so mean to you, but when so many people have runs polar opposite to yours, with abuse, harassment, and calls to suicide... one really wonders why you see this and so few others don't.

Never! I have had people remind me about my stance, when I was new, but never harassed for it. Ever! Even back on the first day of 2.0 when agro generation was less, and we used to flash a lot, it was still easy to keep mobs on me.

Absolutely never! See my comment about looking into your heart and adjusting your own attitude if people are harassing you so much!

I am now wondering if you are on a very toxic server? What you are describing is just so different to what I experience.

Thats like me saying depression is a myth because I have never suffered it. Thats not how the world works. It might work that way in your little bubble in your head darlin, but thats not how it is in the real world. I have never had tankiety or healxiety, but like like any form of nerves, or anxiety it exists for people weither you want to acknowledge it or not.

I've seen some pretty terrible tanking and healing in my years of playing FF XIV, but I could probably count on one hand the amount times I've seen them called out for it in what would be deemed a "toxic" manner. Most of the time it is either met with something along the lines of "Tank/heals please" or total silence. If I see it and it gets frustrating I always opt for total silence. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
