have been in tonberry ever since ARR era so i try to answer it as honest as i can (according to my experience of course), DO remember that i rarely do any savage, so all my experience is based from PUG and Duty Roulette.
1. up until now i never see anyone berated when we got wiped even if it because some stupid reason, most just "dont mind" or do some grovel emote (usually he/she who feel the one who responsible for the wipe which usually the tank or healer) or just the usual "iam sorry", but at least up until now i never see anyone like directly angry to you by "say" or "whisp" or anything like that, even they speak something JP words i copy and translate it via google translate and it just something like "dont worry about it" or "its fine, its just duty roulette", they just laugh at it and go on. they still act like this even after 6 wiped on EW 2nd trial, but after that usually there is one or two who leave, but they still polite about it like "iam sorry" or "i will take my leave, iam sorry" etc
2. in normal dungeon, its 90% good run all the time, the wipe usually come because tank just pull everything and healer cant keep up, after that tank will adjust (pull 1 or 2 mob only) and everything is smooth run from there, rarely you get any wipe from boss even with sprout party. in TRIAL its 50:50 again its depend on the people who done this run before or not, if most of them are first timer.... well get ready for 1-2 wipe but usually after that its all good.
3. this kinda old news now since player can visit other world, many crafter now adjust their price accordingly, i mean no point putting 1000 gil on your market when i can just visit say... garuda and they sell it for 700 gil. oh and the ff14 market website help a lot for you to check prices too
4. in GENERAL i never see anyone angry or do any sexual joke or the like, but iam sure if there is any they probably do it by whisper, one case i was just idling (waiting DF) and this one potato just come to me and start doing laugh emote non stop, like literally the whole 5-10 minutes he just do nothing but laugh emote to my character, after that he just wave emote and leave, and no i dont know him i already ask my guild, so its... prank i guess? but its harmless... i think?. 90% of the general talk i see in all town is just standard chat (both english and JP but mostly english), people shouting/promoting their new guild, and some random announcing that they are going to play xxx music/song lol
5. i cant say for this because iam not into housing but, if i follow any game that play by JP people, they usually crazy for stuff like this (housing, decorating, fashion, etc), so i think it should be impossible to get new house in JP server (at least in tonberry) if you just start the game, your best bet is to wait dev announce new house plot and try your luck over there.

It's about priority when it comes to feedback.
Listen to Japanese players first, collecting data, then move to NA and EU's feedback.
Adding to this, indeed they were like that but it was a different time period. FFXI had a much polite atmosphere owing to the fact that it was horizontal and we had to spend up to 8 hours exping with the same people, so many players ended up 'knowing' other players through long play. The JP were hesitant because of language barriers but wanted to play with English speakers.
It's not a nice word for Foreigner and even the English word itself can be used in a derogatory way..

I originally started playing FF14 in 2016 on Aether DC, and started fresh last year when I moved on Gaia DC.
I still occasionally go on my alt in Aether, but found that there are a lot of differences (good or bad) between the two.
1. The Marketboard prices in Aether are insane. In Gaia it's generally pretty evened out between all the worlds, and not many huge jumps in prices. But particular for glams (the level 1 pieces), Aether prices are still insane for some older sets.
2. JP players generally collectively agree on standardized strats from particular raiders for savage/ultimate raids; similar to NA DCs, only in JP servers it is mandatory to have a macro to look at it properly and do the mechanics. In NA I've mostly seen people confirm positions, but that's it.
3. NA main language? English. JP main language? Japanese. If you're a SEA, or general overseas player it will be pretty hard to get into raiding through the PF in the JP servers due to communication issues (which is why there are an abundant amount of "JP ONLY" PF's that have always popped up during raid tier releases). This applies mostly towards Gaia, as Mana and Elemental have quite a bit of overseas players at the moment who make their own PFs, WHICH IN TURN the JP players feel somehow pressured by and feel like people are "encroaching" on their data centers.
4. Toxicity in JP DCs are behind their equivalent of forums like 2CH. And it is SUPER toxic. The recent talk Yoshi-P had on the Mog Radio-station was actually addressing the JAPANESE player base, in particular their outcry and outright flaming the developers for the Samurai class being super underpowered and still super clunky. Within game, it's passive-aggressive and if you don't clear content it's usually a silent vote-disband.
5. Interestingly enough, glam is pretty different between NA and JP. NA seems to be more leaning towards face customizations, some interesting casual outfits and etc. JP is more simple with the face and character customizations (for example light brown hairstyle, no odd-eyes, tattoos, etc), and while there are a lot of casual glams a lot of them lean more towards the fantasy side.
6. Almost no one will use shout-chat ever to talk in the main city hubs in JP servers. Also very rarely Say chat.
This all being said, each DC has their own unique quirks and communities which makes it all super interesting. JP Datacenters are by all means no utopia, and there's actually a bit of toxicity and negative stigmas against overseas players that are on the JP DCs.

this, JP players are number one when it come to passive aggressive. probably because their lifestyle or their society, they usually just smile and wave on the face to face / meeting. but then they pour all their anger on website like 2chan and so on. to be honest it kinda scary, they like a bomb that could explode any moment but the scary part is you dont know because if you look on the outside, they look normal and well.4. i mean you cant blame yoshi for this, he is JP who make JP game so of course the first feedback you focus will be from JP too, if iam american and i make game like wow, of course the first feedback i will see is from my fellow american, not japanese or other nation. They don't prioritize NA or EU lets not kid ourselves. We are 2nd and 3rd rate citizens when it comes to SE which is whatever but lets not sugar coat it. JP gets the priority always even though they are a MUCH smaller player base.
Yes I get that they will prioritize JP. What I don't get is why NA and EU have been basically getting the short end of the stick in terms of having basic things like mods on our section of the forums and in game? We have such a massive amount of players over JP that it makes no sense we don't even have the basics.
Like many have said it is about culture and loyalty to their country and people. Japanese have a very nationalistic culture that makes their country strong, though at times annoying to foreigners. On a business standpoint the japanese playerbase will be their main audience since they have been there since 1.0 even if we now outnumber them. On a cultural standpoint they will always try to stick and prioritize their own hence you can see them using japanese companies to subcontract or help develop their website, payment system etc. despite having a choice to get a much better company in the west. I am sure this game's registration and payment system would be muuuuch better if they hire a top notch western company instead of using the ones that develop playonline etc.
Yoshi-P is actually one of the few more open minded Japanese you will ever see in Japan.
Negativity is usually just hidden from public display, both in and out of the game.
People tend to keep to themselves and their own social groups. If you reach out, they are generally helpful but you pretty much need to be able to speak Japanese. If you do speak Japanese and conform to cultural norms, it's very smooth sailing regardless of nationality.
I don't do high end content. But normal dungeon runs, raids, and trials are no problem with DF. Usually people just follow the tank and it's quiet and uneventful.2. They can clear all content via duty finder and party finder with extreme rates of success, be they savage or ultimates, and the skill level in japanese DCs are tenfold what you would find in NA DCs. There is never any debate or disagreements in duties.
In all the time I've been playing FFXIV, I've rarely seen arguments or accusations in chat, and only seen a vote abandon happen once that I can recall.
The market operates as a market should. Supply and demand, and it balances out by itself.3. Nobody ever overprices or undercuts severely in the marketboard, the economy is extremely healthy and everything is sold and bought at fair prices.
I've never seen or heard of inappropriate behavior in any of my in game circles. Even shouts are usually very polite.4. Nobody is ever inappropriate in social interactions, there are no sexual advances or swear words, everything is always kept E.
Now this is just not true. w5. You can buy houses just by walking up to them and clicking on the placard, there are more houses than there are people who want houses.
