RP and FFXIV?!

So I'm fairly new to MMORPGs, this one being the one I have played the longest (not even a year yet). But I have read around the place that there is RP on this game. I've kept my eyes open for it, but have never seen it no matter the server I go to.

So I'm just trying to work out, what server do you find this on? The only answer I have found on google is Balmung which is always closed to new players, and Mateus which I found insanely cliquish (that was a very lonely time on there, but it lived up to all the reviews I'd read so I blame myself).

I have zero experience with RP but it seems like an interesting thing to do in downtime and I'd like to give it a go. Any advice or ideas on servers that are better for this?

I'm surprised you found Mateus cliquish! I was welcomed with open arms when I transferred here.

Anywhere on the Crystal data center will have a lot of RP. Malboro, Brynhildr and Zalera are the next three "down the list" with significant RP populations. Remember -- with world server visits, you can create a character on any Crystal realm and travel to Balmung for RP.

Rp in 14 is diseased, rotten to the core. There is no saving it. We need to ban it at the roots. Wipe the slate clean. Burn it down.

Balmung used to always be closed to new players, but a number of things happened to change that.

1. Cross-world party finder, which meant you didn't need to be on Balmung to see lots of party listings.
2. Congested status, preventing character creation and transfer on Balmung, forcing people to transfer off to play with friends.
3. Data center split, which moved Balmung out of Aether, forcing people to transfer back to Aether to raid.
4. World Visit System, which allows people to make characters on other worlds and visit Balmung temporarily.

So you no longer need a character on Balmung to RP. You can make one on any Crystal world and visit Balmung. But that isn't necessary either because RP now happens a lot on all Crystal worlds.

Essentially you can find RP on any server, however Crystal Datacenter is the best know for it. Most people do the heavy RP on Balmung, but will have their FC, houses, and everything else on all the other servers and only go to balmung using the world visit from the home aether crystal for RP and group gatherings.

The best way to get involved in RP is to go to advertised community events, there are plenty and most are not ERP. Which makes it easy to get involved in. These events usually happen in private and FC housing.

If you're looking for RP randomly on the streets, best bet is Balmung. Otherwise, any server really has RP opportunities through the Party Finder (venues like bars, restaurants, etc. are usually the main way to find RP).

I've seen a lot of RP exploding on Goblin and Diabolos, which are on the same data center as Balmung. You might try one of those.
