After starting playing this game I went into my goto choice - a healer. Went through MSQ, optional instances and so on. Mid December I've decided to see how a DPS job would feel and like if I can level it up to 90 and possibly use it in open world mobs/fates better than WHM... I've picked Archer/Bard for this and the leveling turned out quite fun (no cast times!) although dungeon roulettes queues are slow for DPS - 12-18 min... At level 66 right now...
...But as queue was long I also started looking at other ARR jobs - to check them out or to push all of them to 30 for an achievement. Some had really interesting guild storylines too. Join the guild, get the quest, go to the first zones, farm fates and hunt log, return at level 20 and then some instances and 30.
But I also did something quite daunting - I've picked a tank job and queued for a dungeon as well - a first I was looking at GNB due to possible saving on leveling but kind of didn't liked all those buttons so I went with WAR (plus the benefit of starting at 1 and learning gradually). Even at first levels bashing things with axe turned out quite addictive. Then dungeons... Sastasha - where do I go? no one to follow as on healerI did also Scholar and Pala 50, but Warrior is going to 90 (71 now).
But the most striking thing is the perspective you get on the game when you end up in the same instance as another job/role. Simple things as melee not having aoe half way through ARR levels. Then on tank starting to check who you have in party - do you have sprouts, is healer a sprout, level of instance = who has aoe, what people are saying (first time etc.) then try first pull to see how the team works...
And then 50-80 roulette - "hey I was here long long time ago" - playing on WHM I went through MSQ and unlocks and rarely got back to those instances via roulettes. This time I have to lead/execute given instance run. Aside of refreshing on mechanics I started noticing various player behavior - like which mechanics usually go wrong or people don't really know about (like even snowballs in snowcloak) and should be pointed out, not to mention the first dungeon with a Doom mechanicOr things like how to position boss for current party position - like back or side aoes or mechanics boss will do; or when to break a pull based on aggro loss / players positions / healer problem / LOSing caster mobs/ magitek green thingy etc - completely new game compared to playing a healer.
Bard also had some new things - like running next to tank and shooting AoE while strafing or if tank dies trying to run in circles kiting/strafing/trying to survive.
And it's kind of weird that on 60-69 levels the 50-80 roulette gives mostly 50, but when I hit 70 I got mostly 70 instances. "Here go do instances you weren't in since SB MSQ but now as the tank, why not, YOLO" - at least as WAR I still can use my inner healer
Really having fun. If anyone didn't tried it yet I can highly recommend![]()
