[Suggestion] DOUBLE the amount of macro capacity.

The game is getting bigger with each new expansion and we are also getting more jobs but one thing that hasn't grown in a while is the macro capacity and I believe it's time for the dev team to increase the total.

Since macros are stored on the client side I think it wouldn't be a problem to DOUBLE the capacity from 100 to 200 in both tabs, 200 for personal macros and 200 for shared macros.

Some players may believe macros are useless and don't take advantage of them but for others like myself they are valuable tools inside the game that can help in a lot of things, like hunting and crafting macros.

The dev team must have in consideration that we players who don't use third-party plugins don't have as many advantages as those that actually use them (I just found out about such things existed a couple of days ago), thing is I could really use more macro capacity and since no one else has asked for it I decided to start the petition/suggestion.

I’m surprised that you do not think 100 personal macros are enough given the limited functionality of the macro system itself. Given the tremendous changes made to DoH over the past couple of expansions I find the actual need for macros to be much less than they were.

I can sort of agree with this. Early in the game's lifespan I toyed with the idea of creating macros that explain boss mechanics whenever it was needed. However, even in just ARR this became hard to image sustaining. I haven't even seen these of macros since then. However, consider the reasons you may want to use a macro:

    - Crafting
    - Hunts
    - Accessibility (goes a long way to making the game enjoyable)
    - Advertisements (statics, RP, etc.)
    - Job changing (depending on your hotbar utilization, BLU, for example, or assigning Eureka gear and equipment)
    - Job syncing (for commonly used actions/reworks)
    - Roleplay
    - Mechanic explanation
    - Job actions (quite rare now, but some people still use party messages for raises, invulns, and DRG may still (sadly) want a macro)

I'm sure I am missing some usages. The commands you can use in a macro or the complexity of the macro system are not reasons to not add more space for macros. A lot of text-only macros exist and if you are invested in the game from a multitude of angles you will utilize macros in more ways than you thought you might.

That said, perhaps they are relying on third party tools to fill in these gaps (even if PS4/5 players are left out for the most part aside from hardware macros + keyboard).

I would also like more lines to be available in each macro if possible, thanks!

Could you please provide some specific examples on why the current amount is not enough?

I need 100 more macros so I can make 100 more meme Provoke and Shirk macros. My big time favorite currently is my gunbreaker one: "silence bottom" "Provoke on <t> <se.4>".

More on point: it sounds like you need better management of your macros. You have 100 individual macros (character specific) and 100 shared (account wide). You effectively have 200. I don't know what you could possibly be doing that you need more, unless you're doing the meme 1 button summoner rotation.

Other than 6 or so for crafting, and possibly a few more for ground-targetting spells you'd rather have as <t> or <me> ... what on Etheriys are you using the other slots for?
You can't possibly need THAT many to spam moogle-text-art at your groups.

    Agreed

I agree. Like it or not I've used macros for all my jobs. Not just crafting or RP reasons. And doing endgame content this way. No one has ever noticed or even asked me about it. So don't give me that GC crap. Cause I make even the best tanks and dps struggle to keep up with me. Just gotta make them right. And playing alts alot. I want more space to share my job skills.

    /doubt

It is a proven fact that macros are worse in combat. It's not debatable.

Actually, that "fact" was based on a widely propagated misunderstanding and has since been debunked.

The big problem is that most players don't understand how FF14's macros work, what a macro is capable of, or how to write a macro properly; and it makes perfect sense that most players don't know these things because the macro system is both incredibly unintuitive and in no way explained. So it's common for players to try to get macros to do things they can't do, or to try to use them in ways that prevent them from working, or to simply fumble a macro's implementation in some way that undermines it. If you hold a handsaw from the wrong end, you're going to have a bad time, and it's not because handsaws are bad at what they do.

I wrote a massive post on this topic that contains a lot of nuanced information — including the scientific demonstration that debunks this commonly misunderstood idea that macros are bad in combat — so I encourage you to check it out: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...-or-Lost-Casts
