I guess, the biggest JP fans are already on Tonberry. And it should be easy to block the JP datacenters for travelers.
Cheers
Exactly. It isn't about racism or xenophobia, it's about respecting the wishes of a community that does not want to be included in the whole cross region thing.I think people like to exclude Japan because they're the ones who have expressed concern over cross regional data center travel. Being concerned about the gameplay style and culture being too different in the West and ruining their way of doing things. Personally I'd prefer Japan to be excluded from it over not getting cross region DC travel at all, it's just stupid to punish the rest of the world for something Japan doesn't want to happen but everyone else does.
Funnily enough, Tonberry was Oce Central XD Most of the Australian/New Zealand players played on Tonberry.

Nothing but time invested in a main is stopping anyone from making a character on any open server.
I routinely see people from former Elemental servers back over there to do things with groups they used to play with. It does happen and is helpful for people who couldn't leave a server that was getting moved to a new DC.
There is a TOS, yes, but let's be honest here, it's not well enforced. Ever since Materia was declared Dead On Arrival, my friends and I have been noticing an increasing number of people doing things "The NA Way" in town and in duties. I've been on Elemental since May, 2014 and have only seen this sort of behavior recently. It wasn't a thing until mid-Shadowbringers. Although anecdotal, the observations are frequent enough to steer me in the direction of believing they're former NA/EU players who went to OCE then transferred to Elemental.
The people exhibiting those behaviors are disruptive and have started to erode the positive relationship non-Japanese players had with the Japanese community. It took us years to build and effort to maintain, and now people who were originally playing somewhere else and came here for reasons only the Twelve know, are ruining it. Full disclosure, I live in the US and my FC was founded by people in the US to serve expats in Japan and those who wanted to get away from NA servers. I know exactly what an NA-based FC and general English-language community can be like on Elemental and it's no longer what it was.
Give NA/EU/OCE cross-region travel between themselves, but leave Japan out of it.

Lets be honest, on this point, I think u are scared of JP players, that they may come and visit u on ur server. jk.
I been in Japan few times, I talked to real people there, I played with these people too (other games + discord), totally normal people for me.
I cant get it, why do u need to isolate one people from other in year 2022.
Thinking that way, we should also "isolate" people who speak only their native lang, but that already sounds weird, and its also cause troubles in global and future.
Coz why someone have to decide with which people I am allowed to interact to.
And since u already can transfer between datacenters, and create characters there with any account. I dont see a problem to allow temporary hopping between these datacenters.
For people, who miss behave we have TOS, coz they can/will miss behave everywhere, and it have nothing to du with datacenter hops.

Not by a long shot, mate. Sorry to burst your bubble, but we are growing nicely. Then again, we all know that NA kicked and screamed when OCE servers were announced, demanding that they be handed over to NA instead.Ever since Materia was declared Dead On Arrival
What made me laugh the hardest was this immortal two faced contradiction.
NA: "200 ms is unplayable" and then, what did we hear when OCE servers were announced?
NA "They dont need their own servers... they can play at 300 ms, its perfectly fine, give them to us"
I find it somewhat interesting that this was the VERY SAME facetious argument used when we got OCE servers in WOW.
History repeats itself...its fine for everyone else to have bad latency and bad gameplay...just not you.
Materia sends their regards , we are busy , happy, and growing, we are here to stay. Ran into the members of two entire FCs that left Elemental and are now on Ravana, lots of hugs and happy faces in Limsa when i zoned in......they missed me, awwwwww....*blush*
Just the opposite.Although anecdotal, the observations are frequent enough to steer me in the direction of believing they're former NA/EU players who went to OCE then transferred to Elemental.
Materia, actually is in fact seeing a constant stream of sprouts and seasoned players FROM Elemental and NA servers to play on OCE. In all truth I am delighted, as this is a wonderful chance to brush up on my Japanese.

The reason we don't have region travel is because the Japanese gave feedback that they don't want it, as explained by YoshiP. This thread is saying fine, we respect that but let the rest of us region visit, ESPECIALLY those on lonely island OCE. Japan doesn't need to be included if they don't want to be.Lets be honest, on this point, I think u are scared of JP players, that they may come and visit u on ur server. jk.

I'll support this on the condition we're locked from accessing JP DC since it will disturb the JP playerbase. While I personally would like to go there and see if I can interact with any Japanese players, I understand they don't want to deal with foreigners but I'm not sure if the other otakus & weebs do.I've just read the news about the Oceania data centre and everything which is being done to relieve congestion and it's all great news. The part which really upset me though is this
"while the system has been designed to allow cross-region travel, we'll be limiting it to travel between logical data centers within a physical data center at first due in part to differences in game economy and values. We’ll be paying keen attention to the opinions of players as we consider whether or not to introduce cross-region travel in the future."
When the game started, the NA servers were on the East Coast. Many players from Europe decided to play on them to continue to maintain groups which they had established in Final Fantasy XI or in beta. Personally, have been playing with some folks in my Free Company since 2004. Because the servers were on the East Coast, the ping was acceptable, if not ideal.
Now the NA servers are on the West coast, the ping is large and it does cause a disadvantage. I appreciate that this is not everyone's hjistory but Square Enix made their FFXI servers global, I had friends and linkshell members from Alaska to Singapore and we moved as a group to FFXIV
I know this is a different game and I accept that I could move to an EU data centre but that would break up a mixed NA and EU group of almost 18 years... The very folks who make it worth playing in the first place.
As a UK player on an NA server, I am at a disadvantage. We have EU/NA folks in our group and the EU players were really hoping to be able to travel to the EU data centre to undertake more demanding duties.
Allowing folks to travel to other regional data centres also enables you to play reliably outside of your home centre's prime time.
I really wish I could Visit EU realms as I currently play NA, back in 1.0 most of us played on American servers and stayed in the same servers and made friends and back then the servers where a lot closer to us (east coast I think) but now they are West coast and you can feel massive latency while playing, it would be cool if we had the option visit EU realms as when we are doing high end content we don't have to worry about really bad latency
I understand the JP servers not wanting to be connected and I think we can fully respect that while also allowing EU and NA to be connected. Most of us are begging for that. This can be a win-win situation. SE has proven they can connect some servers but not all (ie ability to go to OCE but not anywhere else) so why not just bridge EU and NA. Later on, if JP wants to be semi-included, perhaps they could make it so that JP can visit out, but no one can visit in.
I genuinely just want NA and EU to be bridged so I can do things with my friends without the horrid ping of trying to use the OCE servers. Plus the timeframes for using OCE servers as a way to play with NA/EU friends is terrible since it's 4-5a there so getting a PF up and running is never happening
Japan can keep its own raiding ecosystem, I just wanna be able to play with my NA friends on my main...
