YoshiP has spoken, and he has prepared us for 4 new worlds in July 2022.

2 new worlds for Chaos

2 new worlds for Light

In 2023, we'll get our 3rd European Datacenter with 8 entirely new worlds with a 4th to be prepared and deployed in the event a 4th data center is required.

In short, we'll get an 8:8:8 setup by 2023 - 8 worlds on Chaos, 8 worlds on Light, 8 worlds on our 3rd data center.

Alright fellas, no doubt our data centers currently will remain the same, what's going to be our gameplan for building a community on the 3rd data center?

a third data center in europe would be overkill imo after the launch rush everything really died down in Europe (I'm mostly talking about Chaos i don't know if the situation is the same in Light)

The initial craze is dying down but Shiva is still having queues approaching prime times, albiet at 1.7k during peak. Although today at 5:20pm ST, we didn't seem to have a queue, so maybe the craze is over.
I don't think a third center is overkill though, Light got pretty congested on all worlds in the World of Warcraft refugee move and Endwalker saw queues as high as 10k at peak times. I personally think a third data center is well worth the investment.

They aren't adding servers, just splitting the current set into a new DC. Having more logical datacenters increases the number of people who can log in using the same number of servers.

The community will surely build itself, just like when Chaos got divided into two DCs.
A all new PvP and raiding scene on a brand new data center is bound to be interesting though. I'm really looking forward that.

Moving JP from 12 to 8 is better, that allows better flex capacity. Like say if 2 of the servers in same data center aren't as crowded, that spare capacity can be flexed to say if Chocobo was in that data center, it is the most popular JP raiding server.

I’ll be staying on Chaos-Ragnarok. No reason for me to move DC.

Keep in mind that the game is not on sale at the moment.

New people joining would probably create characters on the new DC if all old DCs and congested.

Sorry but it is not overkill. I guess, the next expansion will be more successful than Endwalker. With a third data center there is more room for future. And the bottleneck of a data center is the login server. The world servers may be fine but if the login server is overloaded then the players still cannot play and get the 2002 error. A third data center will relieve the remainig login servers.
