Just Delete PvP at this Point

Every single game mode is completely dead save for Frontlines and only because it has a daily roulette

Rival Wings is dead and the mounts are permanently unobtainable to those who didn't already get them when they were still active

Feast continues to have exclusive FOMO rewards given to it that just get's eaten up by win-traders anyway

The vast majority of people who que for Frontlines don't even bother to do objectives and immediately throw the game just to get it over fast so they can get their daily reward out of the way with, and whether or not you win is if you got lucky enough to be put on a team with a higher degree of players who actually care about winning, the team size too large for any one individual player to turn the tide of battle so you win or lose almost entirely based on luck.

An entire game map, Astralagos, has been dead for 3 years because you made it unque-able due to a slight mistake in map design and somehow never fixed it after all this time.

The official PvP subforum is virtually devoid of any activity. It can go days or weeks without anyone posting anything despite the myriad of problems with PvP which should result in loads of posting giving feedback but no it's completely dead here.

And now, despite all these issues, you intend to release a brand new game mode at some undetermined time this expansion, which will be DOA unless you give it daily roulette or some carrot-on-a-stick to incentivize people to do it.

This game's pvp is by far the worst implementation of PvP in any MMO. It's been several years and you've completely failed to get the community to engage with it in any serious capacity. It could be argued that this game's gameplay style just does not suit PvP and I'd agree to some extent, but I think there are a myriad of issues beyond that that COULD be addressed but just aren't and there's zero indication that they ever will.

If you don't intend to critically examine just what's wrong with PvP, and actually make an effort to get the playerbase to engage with it beyond giving them a carrot-on-the-stick (which just promotes people queing to lose on purpose to make the game end faster in order to get their reward as fast as possible) then just remove it altogether. It's clear the community doesn't like it, they only do it for the rewards, many of those rewards are now unobtainable for a large portion of players either due to it being temporary or because the community collectively stopped doing the content that gave them becaues they already got theirs.

It's an absolute joke. It doesn't have to be, but it is. Just remove PvP, give the rewards as obtainable through regular tomestones, and accept you simply could not make an engaging form of PvP content in this game and move on.

As far as I know, the new game mode is supposed to be released next patch, so probably in two months. We should have more information a bit earlier with the next live letter.
We'll also get a new reward system that might change a couple of things on other game modes (Like the Feast removal). Hopefully it will bring more people to pvp, so it becomes more active, and feels less like a private club.

We have to be patient, just a little more.

PvP has gotten worse overtime. I can't exactly remember at the moment, but I think that Yoshi did say something about players NOT wanting to "pvp".

Despite looking at the past changes and the current state I'll still rather pvp all day than to be doing dailies. I just don't see myself touching dungeons and raids other than getting through them for the first time.

The problem with NA/EUFF14 PvP has nothing to do with they system or gameplay, it is the people.
We are educated in a way with high self-confidence but in return we also get trait of selfish.
At other region's FF14 PvP, participants will be thankful if someone willing to take the mantle of leader and will not try to dismiss him during the game.
    Will that happen to NA/EU?
    Highly unlikely.
Each of us starts with high ego and always thinks we are better than others.
Such mindset made us perform poorly in any large scale PvP.
Not just FF14 Frontline, pretty much any larger scale PvP that requires coordination and leadership.
This guy is just ranting on something we already seem with WoW's EPIC battleground.

I can say this as 100% solid fact, no game company will be able to makes a good larger scale PvP for NA/EU because we likes smaller scale skirmish.
COD always out sales Battlefield is the best example

I like PvP in this game, but in a purely casual way... I try my best, but I don't care if I win or lose in the end. I just have some fun. I don't think it should be removed, but instead incentivized more. It's important to give us exclusive rewards for participating. I'm really excited about the new season pass system, I'll want to max it every time! I hope this is incentive enough for people to do it more, and I hope the rewards are cool enough that everyone will try their hand at it to have the cool mount / glam.

The new mode, being 5v5 will be interesting as well. Being good and trying hard for your team will be more impactful that way, like how you have a lot of personal impact on the feast.

I really hope they lean into this season pass idea, where if you play or win enough in the season you get the rewards, and if you don't you can get past season rewards with the tokens given by this same system. I really hope they stop doing FOMO rewards for the top 100 and such, that is a waste of resources. You should play pvp because it's fun, not feel forced to be the best of the best or lose out on some cool mount forever.

Think about it. Season 20, with the dreadnaught mount was the last season. Feast is basically over. 2 years from now, there will be so many new players in this game, that all of those mounts from pvp will have been a forgotten myth that way less than 0.1% of players have. Super cool and unique mounts that will basically not exist, never to be seen again. Chances are if you have one of those you don't even use it that often. In my 4 years in the game I only saw a feast mount on the wild 2 times. What I mean is, I hope the future pvp reward mounts are things people can always work towards getting. And they will be able to, with the tokens. That's why I'm so excited about the season pass thing.

So, I'm excited about the future of PvP. It'll be more casual in a way and hopefully more fun as well!

Out of all the Frontlines, I only ever run it when Seal Rock is in the Roulette rotation. Once I get my Field Commander's Coat, I'm never going back. Unless they happen to release new Garo rewards...

FL roulette is basically a participation trophy. It leads to people either only sitting on nodes and refusing to pvp or attacking non-stop the team that is not winning to get the match over with. Many of them don't even know you get more exp if you win.

RW lives on weekend nights in NA. It apparently does pop for JP.

The biggest problems are throwers and cheaters. No mode will work otherwise.

Technically, any PvP system under NA will turn into an event of participation trophy.
In past 20 years, NA education system shift into reward the last place in compare to most of Asian's "only winner takes all" mentality.
This is just an unavoidable end result and this should not be a surprize.

A sharp contraist, on JP datacenters, their goal is to win but on NA dataceters, you are getting mentality of "I am just here for exp"
This is why I said the problem is always the people, not the system.

I don't see why people are looking at frontlines in such a negative view. I often come across the same heads in frontlines, and will tend to play with them as I know they're good. Besides, most of the time people are actually willing to listen to directions and will play for the objectives once you tell them how it works.
Bad groups happen but you usually win when you've got the competent players on your side. All in all, you need to play frontlines and get better at it to enjoy it and be able to make a difference.

I must admit, I am giving Frontlines a lot of crap myself when I talk about it, primarily on these two points:

    - I dislike the three-way PvP dichotomy since it essentially massively increases the chance of being outnumbered by virtue of fighting two teams
    - A problem with western culture that every man is pretty much on their own, as evidenced that organised team pushes are rare and if anything the group with the bigger deathball wins, since most players disperse rather than engage as a group.

This does not mean I dislike large-scale PvP though, I personally like the idea - it is just that I think Frontline isn't executing it as well as I hoped it would. Which is why I like Rival Wings a TON more:

    - objectives are spread out a bit and you always have something you can do other than focusing on the one or two objectives that activate on a map and preemptively holding position
    - multiple objectives active (CE tanks, train, mercenary, mammets, mechs, towers) at the same time means you need to split your team up to not get overrun on one side
    - you can hold the destruction of one tower to bring down another to low HP then nuke both, preventing access to Brute Justice until the base is fully exposed as well.
    - its 2 teams (yes im biased)

Large-scale is great and imo Rival Wings does it a lot better, especially with Hidden Gorge (still RIP Astragalos) and I wish it would get the Daily Challenge promotion it badly needs to encourage more play in the west. Really hope 6.1 Series Pass will help to foster more matches being played in all modes. One can only dream.
