then roleplay with your alt in that beautiful world and amazing story by leveling it.
I understand the good intent behind this post but I would really not want this game to be like WoW where suddenly people have more role-play characters at 80/90 than the amount of brain, personal time and energy required to develop them on a meaningful level.
A huge thing about online RP is that you have to use your imagination to fill in a lot of the gaps. You do not need an alt character for a story NPC or event NPC, imo.
I used to role-play on WoW and up until around Cataclysm, most people had a dedicated character whose story they worked on and developed at length. Then came the age of a million alts and people couldn't decide which one they wanted to use, where people became more fickle and characters became more like coats to try on occasionally instead of something we put any time into developing. I know that doesn't apply to everyone, ofc but I also don't want a shit tonne more IMVU alts running around everywhere. It's jarring enough as it is, lol.
It also made trying to recruit for an RP guild a nightmare.
While I'm not sold on the idea of being able to create higher level alts without a boost, having some additional help for RPers would be good. For example:
1. Allow all characters to travel to all main cities as long as they're the appropriate level and the player already has a character that's reached that point in the MSQ. I've got a level 56 Warrior that just now got to Ishgard and I can't travel to Idyllshire to spend my tomestones. I'm guaranteed to hit 60 early on in the HW MSQ, with no way to get to Rhalgr's Reach to spend tomestones. Even if all we have is access to the main cities and associated housing districts, it would be a major QoL change for alt characters.
I understand the story progression reasons for limiting access to zones based on MSQ progress and 100% agree with it for any and all zones outside of main cities and housing districts.
2. Making the Glamour Dresser account wide would be amazing. My guess is this would be quite a complex thing and not practical to do, but it sure would be nice for my alt to be able to access all the glamour items my main has and vice versa.
To address a question: yes, there's quite a bit of in-world, non-ERP, non-dating sim RP out there if you go looking for it. One may need to make sure to specify to RPers encountered on a case by case basis that NSFW RP is out of bounds just to make sure though.
Wise men speak because the have something to say, fools because they have to say something. - Plato - He saw the ff forums apparently.
Do the NPCs near the Aetherite Plazas not appear until after a certain point in the MSQ? I've never bothered with an alt, so honestly curious to know if they only appear after the MSQ for that section of the game is finished with. While I'm not sold on the idea of being able to create higher level alts without a boost, having some additional help for RPers would be good. Nope. If I remember correctly if you somehow got there before the MSQ caught up - if you even CAN do that...- those NPCs will not be there.

Noone stop LIMSAS BEATS!
The only qol alt feature needed is the ability to:
- Add your own alt character as a friend
- Add tenancy to your alt character
Frickin' this. Good lord.
I have no issue with them saying "you can only have one house per service account per world"; that's perfectly reasonable. But given that the devs know my alt cannot have a house—they're the ones who imposed that limit!—why on earth can't my alt automatically be a tenant on the house I do own on my main?
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

I'm talking about being an event-runner here, idealistic replies about changing one's perspective doesn't provide better roleplay functionality. I can become the most immersed person on earth and do the main story fully believing I am the warrior of light and that won't provide rp for my community, better tools are needed.
