What was the whole "Endwalker = Platinum" thing anyway?

Pre-expansion Yoshi-P mentioned Platinum would be very relevant to Endwalker and he couldn't explain because it'd be a major spoiler.

So now that we finished... what was it about the platinum? Is it because it's corrosion resistant? Because of the sun+moon combined alchemical symbol? Because it's found in large quantities both on the moon and in India?

How did you interpret the whole platinum deal?

1 platinum ounce is worth 982.46 US dollars.
Converted to yen that is 111,922.83
Divided among 6 expansions that is 18653.805
In the year 1865 on the 38th day (Feb 7th), John Henry Winder, American Brigadier General (Confederate Army) and provost marshal, died. The 5th section of his wiki page leads to a list of American Civil War generals.
Among those generals is Confederate Brigadier General Thomas Toon.

PLD AF is platinum. WHM AF is platinum instead of white. SMN AF is platinum instead of green.

I'm going to assume the Platinum was about the duality of everything, combining into a single thing. Hydaelyn and Zodiark, Despair and Hope, Good and Evil, Logic and Emotion, Aether and Dynamis, the balance of each and that taking one out of the equation leads to destruction.

He said that when he looked at the moon sometimes it didn't look yellow, but platinum to him for a moment. IRL, I mean. When he was asked about this. That shining white color he's describing is what I'd say the elpis flowers in UT are reminiscent of and they shined that color b/c of an abundance of hope around them. So platinum was the color of hope. So maybe he meant that.

I mean, all that stuff is good, too.

I wanna know what the two keywords for the expac were that he hadn't told anyone. If it was english, my guess would be "why live" or "why hope" cus that was the thematic question of this storyline. But he's japanese, so I'd think its probably something in Japanese and thus I have no guess. lol Though sometimes they like to say things in english for fun so....???

Eh, Ultima Thule's Elpis field is more prismatic or iridescent. My guess is that it's meant to contrast the flowers in the Ancient world; back there they were always pure white, suggesting innocent yet ignorant bliss. The ones we work with Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus to create in Ultima Thule are likely meant to symbolize hope (and/or true happiness). Meteion is even quickly drawn to us back on Elpis due to our "complex" and "prismatic" thoughts and emotions.

But yeh, I always assumed the "platinum" was referencing the color of the moon.

Hi hi, this came up about a month ago, I’ll link the forum post and my response in it for you.

I chalk it up to YoshiP having a soft spot for the more metaphysical things/symbolism.

I think ultimately this description of platinum (resistant to corruption, determination, grit, etc) very accurately portrays the Warrior of Light character we play in the storyline.

My personal head cannon on his "platinum" reference for the expansion is that FF14 Endwalker is ushering in the "Platinum Age" of Final Fantasy. I'm a somewhat old egg, so I remember fondly the "Golden Age" of Final Fantasy (FF7-11). Some even older eggs would remember the "Silver Age" (FF1-6). I know the reference is probably to what others have posted above, but I like to believe this is what Yoshi-P's original intentions to Platinum mean.
