I updated the video drivers on my system, and was able to get in. Very weird. Addendum: But then I got the message on logging out.

Uninstall smartbyte and toolkit, these are snakeoil
updated to the latest?
Assuming this is a Optimus notebook based on the 1050ti and UHD 630, you also require the updated Intel drivers (these include a fix for a bug that causes DXGI/DWM to crash or use lots of cpu)
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...h-drivers.html (you may have to uninstall existing intel drivers to be able to install this one)
also assumng its a notebook, you might have better luck with the vendors own released drivers for the 1050ti, nvidia's reference set hasn't got perfect compatibility with desktopboards and notebooks tend to have so many custom implementations that you can't trust nvidia's own package on there.
The crash on exit is also possible the bluetooth audio you're using not playing nice with the new audio engine.
