Actually not a bad shout, seeing as the only place we have seen chocobos roaming free on Etheirys is on Eorzea, the domans refer to them as horse birds in the ARR patches and that they appear to be absent on the first, the only other shard we have visited.
I could be wrong as I could have missed a quest on Elpis relating to them.
If I remember correctly, there are (or were) chocobos on the first, they just prefer amaro. Pretty sure npc told us that.
I'm not able to go online at the moment, but I was able to find this picture.

I believe that while Amaro are preferred for personal travel, presumably they're faster (or less smelly) or something, the chocobos are better at drawing carriages and so are kept for transporting goods.

Omicrons seem to me to use the same “skeletons” and animations as sahagin. So take that as you will.
