Jan 2013 is when they will start distributing the new Version 2.0 in retail stores.
2.0 doesn't go live until Jan. They stated the Beta will be what's upcoming in Sept-Oct. Since the PC "free trial" is shortly before the PS3 Beta/Live period, which is Dec/Jan.
