Job crystals have the souls (or is it memories?) of possibly dozens or hundreds of people in them, transferring knowledge and techniques to the wielder. So it's not as impressive as one would think, though we'd obviously need to be strong to put the skills to good use.

Don't undersell it, while you are correct, think about that. Think about how we have to be not only in such shape to pull off whatever it is, we also have to understand it, copy it and pull it off to a degree that once again, we're seen as the next big thing. It's not just being strong, but picture you all of a sudden get the skills to drive a spaceship or make a rocket out of nowhere. Having the knowhow is one thing. We all can read and learn how to make or do something. It's an whole different bag actually pulling that off and not just pulling it off, but doing it in such a way that it's impressive on an unheard degree. That's what the WOL is doing casually.

There's a reason job NPCs tend to make a big deal out of just how quickly the WoL masters the abilities learned from a soul crystal, rapidly outstripping other practitioners that have years of training under their belt. Even before gaining a soul crystal the WoL is noted for being an exceptionally quick learner. Then there's the soul crystals that belong to forgotten or long dead civilizations like Scholar or Summoner that have little to no information to go off of that the WoL still masters despite all odds.

Throw in the fact that the WoL is capable of learning multiple jobs at once when the vast majority of people stick to one or don't even have any and it's pretty clear they're beyond special.

Yeah, I'm not getting the impression that being a quick learner is what people are focused on when talking about us being superhuman demi-gods.

This is all much easier said than done from a marketing standpoint. IMHO players who want to go back to fighting thugs and bandits and actually risk dying are a pretty small minority in the end. Most people play MMOs to constantly increase their power, if you suddenly take most of that power away you are going to piss off a very large chunk of the player base.

Basically they've written themselves into a corner by making us gods.

Yes, but that usually marks the end of the story. Problem is, this is an MMO with no endpoint.

We've killed all the Primals, the beast men version of gods

We've killed Z & H, the Ascians version of gods

And it's pretty much a given that the EW Alliance Raids will have us thrash The Twelve™, man's version of gods.

Zodiarc was in tatters and Hyadelin was spent when we fought them, we never even got to kill what is arguably the strongest primal followed by those two namely Alexander.

Also recently did E2 again... Apparently during that fight there is a quite massive hand off something from the thirteenth trying to grab us or the boss.

The world is still ripe with foes that are dangerous to us.

That seems like a bit of a retcon with the eden story tbh. They had gaia controlling all those voidsent and this is literally never seen again with her fight or the story. Also the names of the creature with the hand and the heads she summoned are related to gaia in greek mythos i believe. They could still make an appearance i suppose but idk anymore after all of the retcons theyve done.

Because something doesn't appear again, yet doesn't make it a retcon. What we can assume is that her Ascian powers were going out of hand until we knocked her out. One thing is certain though and that is that the thirteen is still a credible threat to the others shards.
