As ridiculous as I often find that to be, I think it's less about making sure a paladin looks like a paladin, and more that something else *doesn't*. In other words, if you see someone who looks like a paladin, chances are high that it is in fact a paladin and not a red mage.

If you were to show a picture of the Nier sets to a casual player, do you think they could pick out the tank? Or the bard? How about the Palaka sets, or the sets from Raktika?

Sure, lock AF gear. But locking everything else makes zero sense. In fact, it strips identity from the class even further. I know as a Dancer I'm sure sick of this cowboy set every damn patch - or having bullets strapped to my hip. I don't want to wear heavy armor type as a Reaper, who literally transforms into a goth robe wearing avatar. Even sage, a battle type healer, is now cursed forever in white flowy robes that suit WHM.

5 years ago I would have said differently. But with so many classes sharing sets now, the glamour locks are more and more restrictive.

And yet we have DRK katanas, a PLD gunblade, and a whole host of non-RPR scythes.

None of those specific weapon models can be used by any other job. For example that drk katana cannot be used by a sam, nor does the exact same model exist for sam elsewhere. Only a drk can use it. That is my point. If a specific weapon is already used for a specific job then another job cannot use it at all, and SE already said that they have no intention of changing this.

That cannot be used by all jobs and that weapon was never made for a specific job.

Man I wish I could equip it but having a class that has animations for a book...well SE would have to remake the animations for my entire job so I wouldn't look like I am constantly trying to slice myself when I cast anything.

OP wants pld weapons as an ast...can you imagine how ridiculous that would look with spell animations? The sword would be constantly clipping into their character model.

I can get behind wearing more types of armor since I glam casual stuff but why would an AST wear a sword? That just makes no sense.

I just like Swords, especially the Paladin Swords in this game, there are some of the best designed holy swords in the fantasy genre. I was originally going to be a Paladin but I am just not a very good tank and I feel that some really cool jobs in this game are shoehorned into roles is kind of sad because not everyone that the Paladin appeals to is going to want the responsibility of being a tank.

I just think this game suffers slightly because its locked into the holy trinity of DPS/Healer/Tank and doesn't do anything outside the box with that "Triforce of MMO's".

Its one of those examples where I think being an MMO hinders the game's potential personally.
