What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

Couple things, 1.I’m curious on how he didn’t get his memories back after Kairos if his staff lets him commune with her, did he just never use it after that? And then 2)Just a spitball but if one of the others was able to get the staff perhaps they’d be able to get more info on Meteion that could help. I’m just mainly curious on something that seems like a really important piece of info is just never mentioned in the story afaik and just left in a card.

One of the orders Hermes gave when he summoned Kairos at Ktsis was replacing everyone's current memories with the following:

"Meteion's shared consciousness became unstable. She and her sisters could not sustain their existence, and all dissipated with a burst"

Basically he made himself believe that Meteion was no more which is what prompted him to leave his work and agree to join the Convocation afterwards. Dont know if his staff was powerful enough to commune to Meteion at the edge of the universe but suffice to say, he never tried using it for that because at that point he believed she was dead.

Ive found myself thinking about this Yoshi p quote from back in ShB.

“We don’t like adlib in terms of like, ‘Oh, this character is going to go or this character is going to die.’ It’s not random, either. At the same time, yes, people might notice that those in the core cast may not have died over the course of the story,” he explains. Since Final Fantasy XIV constantly depicts wars, conflicts, and battles, he says it’s “unrealistic to not have any sort of sacrifices even on the ally side. So I mean, I don’t mean to scare you… this is not, by any means a threat of any sort, but don’t get too comfortable knowing that, ‘Oh, these characters are safe’ because you might be in for quite a shock.”

Nice to see this was just yet another lie by him and nothing ever came from this whatsoever.Wonder if this is just more proof of some last minute changes.

I thought she mentioned it in one of the many Famitsu magazine translations posted to Reddit, but I could be mistaken.

Bit of a random thing but, yesterday i was looking at my cards and i realized i had the Hermes card so i was interesting in reading it and…apparently Hermes’ staff could be used to commune with Meteion??? Is this mentioned in the story at all and if not why? That seems like such a vital piece of info especially considering that possibly could have been used to help avert the crisis lol.

They're more like the item descriptions in general. I wouldn't assume the person or people behind those has any hold over the story beyond slightly enriching it. They're fun to read though.

Oh wow, I remember this! This quote had me fretting that we'd lose half the Scions in EW at the bare minimum, maybe some Alliance leaders to boot. We all saw how true that turned out to be .

Wonder which C-tier NPCs they'll kill off in the first couple of new packs so that they can then trot them out for the rest of the decade whenever a sad moment of remembering our sorrows is needed. Surely Haurchefant has earned his rest now. My guy and his headstone have gotten more screentime and line drops than Hoary Boulder despite being dead for 3 EPs.

- Being an Ascian fanatic, I was a little let down by how easily Zodiark was taken down: However, if you paid attention to the rest of the story you would know why it was all important that it happens.
- I'm glad you've never been so depressed you just want to watch the world burn, you alongside it.
- Venat knew that the ancients couldn't defeat a being made of nearly pure Dynamis: Considering the ancients were composed of such vast amounts of aether. Again, if you paid attention, the more aether one has, the less they are able to interact with dynamis: Meaning the ancients couldn't have defeated Meteion even if they were able to reach her. Yet a secondary reason why Venat chose to sunder mankind. Their aether was basically 1/13th of what it used to be: Allowing them a better connection with dynamis and ultimately, making Meteion's defeat possible.

It's not bad writing: You have bad reading comprehension or a short attention span.

Except as we’ve been shown, they’re able of creating entities that can manipulate it. Outside of that; Zodiark shielded them for 12,000+ years. He was able to fend her off for that long and who knows how much longer he could have lasted. Within enough time and if Venat had actually given them said knowledge, who knows what they could have been capable of, we will never know because Venat had no hope in her people and ruined their lives against their consent.

Regarding the whole 1/13ths btw, are we going to just disregard the wol is able to do it and is 9/14th lol

We'll be lucky if it's C-tier. The last NPC I recall dying on the protagonists' side was Conrad. (Anyone not remember who that was? Exactly. :P)
