What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

People are still trying to downvote opposing viewpoints to the nether but it is good to see how many more people are speaking up compared to the same type of thread maybe a month ago.

I couldn't see the vote tallies when I first read it. I don't know what length of delay they have for the numbers to show. I'm glad at least that more people are voicing criticisms because the first month or so was bad with many (including myself) not feeling comfortable expressing their true thoughts.

God, I miss Shadowbringers when I felt like the plot was going in a grey direction.

Same. I can only hope the "junior writers" that Ishikawa wants to hand off to will do something interesting. I wish we knew what other storylines they'd worked on in game so I could gauge if this is a good or bad thing. I'd be a lot more hyped if the writer for HW were taking the helm.

At the end of the day it's a story driven MMO. Some people enjoy Endwalker and that's fine - but I don't think the complaints about the finale are unreasonable given the circumstances. It's not just the story, either - social media is notorious for stamping out any criticism related to the game.

Before the development team themselves confirmed that it was coming, suggestions for the dated character models to be given a new coat of paint were shot down. Equally, concerns about a lack of content with relevance and staying power are also frequently shot down by the same sort of players who will happily just consume whatever is placed upon their plate no matter what it might be.

In regards to the next writer, I'm really hoping that Ishikawa moves on to something else for the next expansion pack and that we can get a new perspective on this story. Maybe the bad storytelling of EW was due to time constraints, maybe not, but I'd like to see what someone else can do with a new set of characters and new ideas. Very happy to hear that new writers will be coming in for the patch content, that might actually make it something worth checking out come 6.1. Maybe. With a proposed idea like "a battles of values", however, sounds like more preaching and telling me how to feel and think incoming.

If by "ruin" you mean, debate my opposing views to the fullest then by all means yes! Pretty sure those who disagree don't have a monopoly on open discussion anywhere on the Internet.

It isn't the people who are fond of the Ancients who are going around insisting that if someone likes the antagonists in a video game then they're 'bad people', or sending death threats to people with different opinions and personal tastes.

From what I've seen, the stance from those who like the Ancients and who also post in this thread has consistently been that they're happy to agree to disagree - and that would be the end of it, were it not for certain posters who behave as if doubting Venat or disliking her in any capacity is some grave sin.

I think it's telling, if nothing else, that some of the same posters who spent the entirety of Shadowbringers railing on the Ascians for engaging in 'genocide' are now trying to rewrite the definition of the act itself so that 'mommy' can continue to be the 'supreme deity' that they've envisioned within their mind's eye.

Which is fair enough! Nobody else is obligated to go along with it, though.

I suppose we can also take comfort in the simple fact that the pendulum is starting to swing in the opposite direction again - and so the desperate attempts to try and limit discussion are now starting to fall apart even on sites well known for hive-mind communities.

I’ll point out that the controversial takes aren’t the one arguing with op there. Apparently a lot of people were glad they didn’t make Hydaelyn evil whihc doesn’t exactly fit that narrative

And brigading threads is pretty widely seen as ruining discussions yes. Anyone whose been on the forum for longer than five minutes can see where the regulars are in that discussion. Same arguments, same refusal to see the text for what it is, same goalpost shifts.

I’m simply voicing my disagreement like PawPaw said they were. Is this not an open Internet forum?
