For him to be wrong, we have to buy into the idea that he gets the knowledge of what happened, and the idea of just chasing down the Metia and destroying them never even occurs to him. That seems highly improbable.
I took his comment as referring to their rejoining plan not succeeding, not the convocation being able to mitigate Meteion thousands of years ago with actual advance notice.

You should also note that the conversation was a pep talk to the WoL. If you're building up your champion to succeed, you're not going to start pointing fingers and second-guessing at that juncture. Of course the WoL will be told that her cause is just and righteous, the best and only option.
