Despite laughing a lot at your comment, I really want to understand if something was missing, or if the story is too weird (not to say it is poorly written)

It is also called "rule of cool".

But not only JRPG writers follow this rule.
Cheers
Not really invalidate it. The dragons keep their cards close to their chest, and don't really give out too much information, as shown time and time again in the MSQ via Midgardsormr (Mr Mysterious himself), Nidhogg, Hraesvelgr, and Tiamat. Vrtra had the knowledge the entire time, but refused to speak to anybody about it. Nobody knew Vrtra was the actual ruler of Thavnair. Nobody knew a dragon knew how to cross dimensions. Just like how nobody knew what caused Nidhogg to go mad until they asked Hraesvelgr, how nobody knew that Bahamut himself was a primal version of an actual dragon until Tiamat was asked, how nobody knew what the hell Hydaelyn was planning except for Midgardsormr (who we still never asked about it). The dragons at this point seem to live by the motto of "You never asked."So... I'm a little confused here.
I was listening to the whole SHB that Cid went crazy looking for a way to take people to The First, and after a long time he did it. So our friends are taken by accident and We have to scramble to find a way to bring everyone back, and for only we are able to cross body and soul between the shards.
Now in a matter of 19 quests, we found a way to safely go to the thirteenth and back with all our friends, including a half-voidsent...
Did I miss some information along the way, or did they really invalidate this whole SHB litany? The question is legitimate.
theres an already existing gate to the 13th.

Anyone got that link for the discord? Finally caught back up to the thread after taking a bit of a break.

It's right here.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I would add it seems travel to the 13th is more easy and natural (It kinda has to be to justify voidsent and stuff)
But the first is basically a unknown in comparison, plus the time travel. Also we have the knowledge of stuff in comparison to the 8th timeline.
Plus the fact that people seem to forget that it was only complex and tricky to get to the First for the Scions because of their souls being snatched away while keeping their bodies in the Source. That was the whole reason why it took them a while to get back unlike the WoL whom was able to naturally travel between the two shards
