Just Bad Luck in Diadem?

So, having spent an entire session in the Diadem after Grade 4 fish (which you need 300) and not even getting a single bite - I'm wondering if the catch rate is insanely low, or it's perhaps bugged?

Yes, far as I know I was in the right spots, and the right time - with the right baits.

I'm totally finished with Botanist. Won't take long to finish Miner, have EVERY other Land achievement but this one and now I'm wondering if it is even possible.

I actually have 3 already - but that was before the expansion dropped. They were rare then, but doable at that rate. If I remember correctly, I got all 3 of those from a single instance. I thought at the time that would be a slog, but doable.

Is it me? Did something change? Is it bugged?

I just went into Diadem to test and caught an Artisanal Sweatfish on my very first cast using Diadem Red Balloon. The fish are definitely still there.

If you're not getting any bites for the Grade 4 Artisanal fish, my guess would be your Gathering and Perception are too low.

I have excellent gear - fully overmelded. I'm wondering if it may actually be too high. I've ran into that issue with fishing in older areas before. IMHO - one shouldn't have to strip to fish.

My set was overmelded for the current legendary nodes when I tested so it's not going to be a too high problem.

All I can suggest is give it another try. Sweatfish has a good catch rate for the 300 catch achievement. They're located at Blustery (29,11 I think). Light tug, moderate tug time. Back in 5.4 I was getting 40+ an hour using Double Hook (got 3 with high stats) so had the achievement completed in about 6 hours. Identical Cast also works, though it ended up better at the time to save the GP for Double Hook. I have no idea what's the best method now with the expansion changes and addition of Triple Hook.

Just to add to this the "you need to lower your stats for fish" is a myth and is not needed, nor never has been.

Wait, what?! I don't know everything about fishing by a long shot but I have never heard of "stats being too high". Are you sure that is a thing? Am I that out of touch? It sounds like some FFXI level mysticism to explain bad luck...
