Yes, all the older character designs (including Au Ra) have a number of early styles that are shared with some but not all races.

There are hairstyles that are unique to each race, then there are a few that are shared with only 1 or 2 other races, and then there's the ones that everyone has.

Yeah, there are some, in between the legacy hairstyles yes.

Mog Station hairstyles have to be available for our races. Of course, every hairstyle should be, but we're paying a premium for some of these and they're just not accessible. Someone got me the HW Shtola outfit a while ago, and I've been curious to try it out, but it's just not there.

Same, that is the one I REALLY want...or well..... I think minfilias would look really pretty on viera as well.

Honestly the quality of hairstyles that have come out these last couple of times just irk me.
I always feel like they are lacking SOMETHING. The two new ponytails from island sanctuary were so cute but WHY did they have to be so SHORT?!
It is a ponytail, far away from the body just make it a bit longer and it won't clip.....

Hm, YMMV? I am happy about short Viera hairstyles because before they made new ones accessible we had, like, two or so, and those were the same haircut but one had an extra braid. I am sure we'll get more long hairstyles for Viera as well with time.

I may be in the minority here, but I'm really hoping for more "fluffy"/wavy hairstyles for Viera (or across the board, really; Hrothgar look good with fluffy hair, too).
