Spaghetti code, the armoire uses a database with limited capacity, when they realised they were going to end up breaching that capacity they stopped asigning job gear to it.
Instead, AF gear for the past 3 expansions can be infinitely regained from the vendor or calamity salvager.
So unless you're currently using it for glam, discard it.

We know that they can add new things to the game such as Mahjong and Vermilion. We also know that achievements can be used to generate items as well as coffers that can generate multiple. And with the makai and some earlier achievement they have shown that we can get achievements from acquired equipment. And if data is so bad then they can tie a total of 5(armor)*7(roles)+4(accessories)+20(weapons/shield)=59 unique pieces of equipment aka an entire tier to one "unlock"...

It really does feel like the lack of a glamour log is just excuses.

The reason glamour plates can only be applied in city hubs, glamour dressers only exist in inns and GC barracks, and armoires and FC chests only exist in specific areas is because this is all information that has to be stored online and shared to all other players as well as the Lodestone, and it would cause way too much stress on servers if we could use these features everywhere all the time. That requires a lot more production resources than "just make the UI for it".
Additionally, a lot of requests have been made in the past to improve the UI or other systems that have existed since 2.0 or even 1.0, and the dev team has already explained that it was virtually impossible because the original structure they're working with can't support it, or they can't justify the enormous production costs required to basically rebuild that structure from scratch.

The "plug-ins" you mention are third party tools and against Terms of Service, so it's not a good idea to discuss them on an official forum.
    So Tandy computer limitations.

Personally.. i don't see they don't just further flesh out a system they have in the game and scrap the existing system.
Hear me out.. when you unlock job gear, it puts a tick on your character's data and you are able to you are able to repurchase it from a calamity salvager. To the best of my knowledge, having access to the item in this manner doesn't tax their systems as much as the glamour dresser system does; so what they should do is have that for every acquired visual equipment piece, and when you pull it out of the new system it is a level 1 version with zero stats (And of course make the weapons and job gear keep their job requirements).

Will this require them to create two of every items? Yes.. but i'm pretty sure storing data of the base items this way is easier than what the glamour dresser does; as it has to store the items you put into it, remember any changes you made to it before tossing it in and then be able to spit it back out into your inventory should you choose to retrieve it.

Now who knows.. i could be wrong on this.. but the current system we have will eventually become untenable and the only solution is to introduce a new way to glamour rather than band-aid fix the current system every few years. And yes, we have to worry about the dreaded spaghetti code, but that IS fixable. Companies do this kind of thing to existing products when they need to... One big example is that Blizzard was able to do this between Pandaria and WoD, there was large scale overhaul that impacted many of the older systems that held the game back. Yoshida and his team(s) can do this too, the company just needs to allow them to do it (since i'm fully convinced that Yoshida and his teams succeed in spite of Square Enix, never because of them).

Honestly, if (at this point) they can't justify the overhauls necessary to fix a lot of these things in their most profitable property, then this game will only ever decline. I really wish that wasn't the case.. but if they can't find a reason to fix the systems here, they'll only keep having make more belt-slot sacrifices as things continue.

Yeah whatever they did to code the storage system has gotta be some eldritch horror nightmare or something, because ALL of the storage in this game is a clunky non-user-friendly mess.

Letting more stuff get shoved in the armoire would be good, but also really just yet another bandaid on a bleeding disaster of a system.

I'll never get a retainer for glamour storage for 2 reasons 1) I refuse to encourage that type of monetization and 2) Having to get the glamour out then put it in the chest just so I can make a new plate from it is asinine.

I triage my glamour dresser about once a month now. After my most recent pass this past week I'm sitting at about 350/400, and this is on a Viera which effectively gets extra space due to not being able to use most of the game's headwear.

Don't even get me started on the paltry number of glamour plates.

You can get the Stormblood AF from the Calamity Salvager, so throw all of it away.

You can get the Shadowbringers AF from spoiler NPC at the bottom of spoiler zone in Shadowbringers. So throw all of that away.

Keep your idealized AF, your augmented/dyable AF.

If gear can't go in the armoire and the gear tooltip says "Shop Selling Price: (number here) Restricted"

it means you can buy it back from the Calamity Salvager. Throw every piece like this that can't go in the armoire on the ground.

Beyond that, you have to assess for yourself whether a piece is worth keeping.

If it's a leveling dungeon drop, throw it out; you can force the game to give it back to you in less than 9 runs, since leveling dungeons forcibly give you a drop for your Job at the end of each run.

If it's a 60, 70, 80, 90 dungeon drop and you are partial to it or use it in a glamour, save it.

If you haven't worn it in ages, toss it.

If your space is valuable, start assigning actual value to the things you will use, and chuck anything that you won't.

The armoire should only be used for gear with special stats. Xp earrings, set bonuses and so on. The rest are for glamour and should be a yes/no tick in your character's data just like your crafting/fishing/gathering log which record the first time you gather or craft an item. Every time we go to a marker board we access thousands of items and their tool tips, but apparently we are unable to get a "glamour board" because it's too much data? Even if they group it based on sets like someone suggested?

No thats not how its working. IF They dont bother to make one NPC for all of that, idc. And no i dont even have AF gear, or at least not more then like 2-3 pieces.

Its an annoying, overcomplicated system and they could easily bind the gear to our job leveling archivments, giving us all in one place. And no im not gonna run a dungeon 9 times bc im wanting that one piece lol
-for example I just realized that even after playing it since its release ive never gotten the caster head piece from the swallows compass - i realized as i finally got the reskin when leveling my last caster.

Im not gonna waste time just cause they cant fix their storage. Also i can use 8 chars per server with 10 retainers each... theres enough space even if it needs some stupid workaround...

Just look how we got flooded with tokken at bozja... look how many unneeded new items we got to craft... like do we need 4-6 wood types for almost pointless leveling gear?

And dont get me started on how we need an external premium app for shifting stuff between retainer...

Yes, on some things for sure.... especially if they dont just unlock some older gear for all jobs after a while, the HW accessory, at least shire n stuff were unlocked, just as proto ultima...
