    Why "Star" and not "World"

Finishing my second trip through MSQ, there's still something about the story that has missed me: why is our world referred to as "our star"? It's clearly NOT a star in any of the ordinary meanings of that word. It's an Earth-like planet with an uncommonly large moon nearby. Only from a great distance could somebody confuse it with a star.

I've made sense of the story, after some difficulty, by substituting the word "world" wherever "star" is used, but I wonder if I'm missing something. Is this a simple translation error or is the author reaching for something that still eludes me?

It's not an error, and has been covered in other topics. Gonna snip quotes from myself here, so your pardon please.

Asteres planetai or "wandering stars" for what ancient Greeks saw in the sky vs what they thought were asteres aplaneis or "fixed stars" (most Greeks thought Earth was this)... I say again, the use of the word "star" in the game to refer to Etheirys (since you can't even be bothered to get the name of the world right...) is correct.

Many (nearly everyone, really) using the world "pray" to indicate a plea or request (insert "pray return to the Waking Sands" meme here), for example. There's a lot of antiquated words used throughout the game, and it works given the setting of the world. While I do take issues with certain actual, weird changes (some of Estinien's dialog being reduced or just turned into "..." wtf?), the use of "star" isn't one of them. Again, it actually is used correctly given the setting.
I sound snarky in one of them because I tend to treat snark with more snark, but the OG poster and I cleared things up, so eh.

It might be a naïve thought, but I wonder if the people who refer to it as a star... like Midgardsormr and Unukalhai as examples.. use that term to refer to the unsundered planet. Something greater than the plane we exist on.

Warriors of Darkness and Unukalhai - from memory are the first real hint of the 13 reflections.

One of the more advanced societies in Ultima Thule use the term "planet" and it is in quotes... clearly strange to our character... I thought it was funny.

They've used multiple terms for the planet it's not like the writers made a mistake.

I'd fancy at the guess that they use the term Star to refer to the zodiac signs in Astrology, as well as the correlated use of Primals reflecting certain Zodiac signs. At least thats my take away based on the Source, Reflections, and creation mythos of FF.

Because it's a fantasy game and in our more primitive days we saw stars in the sky and assumed our planet was also a star. We now understand those stars are the suns of solar systems, but we wouldn't have before.

Eorzea is primitive in this way. It's a lot like how there are countries in the world that don't have much technology or internet connectivity still. Eorzea doesn't, even though the Garleans do. They don't care as much for technology either because magic is so good.
