    I don't mind there being a cap but it really should have been way higher. In a game where you can play as over 18 jobs in a single character you shouldn't be locking the catch-up for each set behind a 3-4 month long grind. That discourages players from being active in more than one job and then the complaints that X or Y job are in less demand for content stays a big problem.

    Personally I don't mind if a job isn't great for raiding if it can do other max lv content or extremes. But XIV can be so anti-alt even when it comes to multiple jobs in one character sometimes I can't blame people for hating having any reason to level and gear up other jobs. It's a can of worms that resulted in the extinction of cross class actions and super homogenization of combat.

    They could make it so that if you didn't cap the previous week you can earn the amount you missed the next. That way you have some leeway and doesn't feel you're logging on for the daily expert.

    This. People who say there's all the time in the world to gear up with tomes even if you miss weeks probably don't have multiple main jobs thye need to gear. I have one per role and it's really hard. I was actually glad when we got that 2 months content delay because it gave me time to finally gear them al, and be ready for the next patch.
    And people say you can just get them later, but they don't consider they'll be useless later for anything harder than a dungeon. If you want to do at least EXes when they're new, you gotta keep up with gear. Unless you do savage and get gear from there, easening the tome grind.

    And yeah, this game hates alts, and Yoshi never made a secret of the fact he doesn't see the point of alts so it's fair they have os many disadvantages. But the only alternative to having to gear many jobs on one char with weekly caps is alts, the only alternative to "you can only clear savage once a week and never help friends clear, or your static will be screwed up with loot" is alts.

    I'd slightly prefer a different route:

    They are tomestones after all. The idea, early on, was that they're used for research. Why not spend them to unlock a particular slot's gear? You get the chosen item directly, also, on first purchase and thereafter can buy that slot's gear on any role with the non-weekly currency.

    All this on top of seasonal caps or at least a week's worth of roll-over allowance, of course.

And in order to even participate you need to go out of your way to find a method of getting invited - generally Discord, which is third party software and therefore, technically forbidden.

    Yep, that's respecting the player's time!
    It is respecting players' time because it is meant for everyone, meaning it can be done while doing easy content.

    And yes, it forces you to use your max level job to incentivize play time for both leveling and endgame, but it does so using contents that both leveling players and endgame players can do together. It's a great way of having players help each other regardless of whether they're at endgame or not.
