I played WoW for 16 years. I would not recommend it to anyone now. especially casual players. Just about everything is time gated or behind a huge grind, and after you grind it out they take it away and make you grind for it again. They are even putting words behind a grind in their next patch. I have had more fun playing the last year here than I have had in years playing WoW.

The developers hate you, despise you and couldn't care less about you or what you want, they have been taking away stuff just for spite for a while now. We already jumped thru their hoops for flying this expac and now the are adding more hoops. WoW developers think they would have the perfect game if it was not for the players.

But this is my opinion and I would not recommend WoW to my worst enemy.

I personally consider ESO to have better story than FFXIV because it's not so linear. Great lore and voice acting too.

I also really like the gameplay of both GW2 and ESO.

But you noted trying both of those and not really liking them.

Beyond that - 5 or so years ago Neverwinter was a great MMO, but I hear it's become too monetized with microtransactions since.

I can't really recommend any of the other options because they're either just glorified waifu-games with cash-shop driven gameplay (*), or they're complete messes like New World.

(*) People say FFXIV is a waifu game with the catgirls and bunnygirls... but this place is tame, and has actual gameplay. Most of those other games spend 90% of their development budget on unrealistic 'chest physics'... so... yeah...

The people in charge over at ActivisionBlizzard literally have done everything they can to continue defending the people who have been at the helm during all of these sexual abuses. Supporting any Blizzard property IS supporting sexual predators as they are still getting paid more money that almost any of us will ever see in our lifetimes.

That's your choice to make and if you don't view that as a moral issue for you? Fine. But you are objectively giving money to people doing horrible things to human beings in the name of profit.

Yep. It's best not to try to claim some sort of moral high ground when literally everything we use in our lives affects someone somewhere negatively. As far as Blizzard goes...I get it. I really do. But if we applied that logic to every aspect of our lives we probably wouldn't be playing, watching or eating anything at all, therefore we would go insane out of boredom and/or starve to death. lol People should enjoy whatever they want to enjoy when it comes to buying a product and leave it at that.

People are free to do as they wish. It's their business, really. But at the end of the day it's usually a pointless effort when it comes to the bigger picture.

That's true. I dislike the idea of supporting Blizz as well... But not because their games are made by "toxic machinery" or "evil people" or "sexual abusers".

The discussion here started because of people pointing fingers to someone playing the game and saying that "they're supporting sexual abusers" when the thing is way more nuanced and that is a huge stretch. A lot of people come here feeling like they're in a sort of higher moral ground for playing FFXIV and not WoW, when this mindset helps literally no one. Specially not the workers that are the biggest victims.

Exactly. And Hershey's chocolate is made by child slaves, etc...we could go on all day. I mean all you have to do is basically exist in modern society and you are supporting some type of exploitation even if you don't realize it. It's a shame but unfortunately that's how it is.
