Not a single person has actually spelt the action name right.
It is Chain Saw, not Chainsaw. Small detail but changes the meaning.

Chain Saw is a nonsense term meant to evoke nostalgia for Edgar's actual Chainsaw. We all know it's actually a buzz saw but that wouldn't get people very excited would it?

Animation wise it'ss disappointing, but gameplay wise it's a very good ability.
It's a new 60s Cooldown with 20 battery. It's an Air Anchor AoE except you get both since they don't share CD.
It allows to play a landmark for party buff and AQ in the opener.
Gameplay wise it's like Drill/Air Anchor. It's very good cooldown, MCH needed that.
Yes, it's far more closer to Buzzsaws and should be renamed "Buzz saws".
I'm all for a melee combo, one request would be that this melee combo should be flexible. For example summoning AQ would grant a resource that allows the use of the melee combo.
Plus, we would get this meme actually happening.
Okay but MCH would have BLM damage because standing still like a turret for 10 seconds is more than any casters. And it would be a terrible design.
It doesn't change the fact that you won't play your job for 10 seconds straight which is the main problem of Flamethrower.

I really wish we'd get a skill that follows flamethrower, something that increases its damage based on how long you dush out flamethrower.

What so if can be a button that every other party member has a seizure over when you pop it like flamethrower? No thanks.

it would be cool if it had a combo skill.. maybe like giving a skill to throw oil/gas onto the enemy then use flamethrower to do base dmg + apply a DoT
MCH just needs something like this.

My whole problem with the skill is its invisibility.
The animation has no impact, the sound is barely noticeable and I often have to double check my bars to make sure sure on cooldown because there is so little audiovisual feedback on using it.
Drill has a meaty firing sound followed by the impact being visually distinct.
Same for Air Anchor. Going to one knee and firing it over the shoulder followed by the visual impact lingering through the GCD somewhat.
And then Chain Saw. Same firing animation as Drill bit without the sound and faster.
Animation itself is a couple of small dark discs moving at high speed.
Slow the animation and replace the tiny discs with that Doma Castles boss saw blade , though a bit smaller.
Functionally identical, but now much more visually interesting.

MCH isnt really a gunner job, its meant to be a job that uses a gun, but also implements other devices and machines such as drills, turrets, etc in combat. A majority of its skills are gun skills and personally I want to see it become more of an actual machinist and not a gunner.I'm glad its not melee... I think Machinists is already straying too far away from Gunner and is turning into something else. Half the abilities already pull out a completely different weapon to do things. Should it continue I shall be advocating for a gunner class so I can get back to ranged physical dps instead of melee saws and throwing McGuffins at things.
Imo a Chain Saw just feels odd.
How is that Machinist related?
It feels oddly backwards too considering the technological marvels they run around with.
I honestly feel that way about Drill too there's just something barbaric about it that doesn't fit imo.
I think a big laser gun or grenades would fit more.
Or a rocket.
