Modding is fine in a single player game because it doesn't matter if the mod gives one player an advantage over other players they'll never interact with.

Modding is not fine in a multiplayer game because it creates advantage only for those who have access to the mod. It removes fairness from the multiplayer environment.

Strange how people can't understand how that's a problem. You might as well argue that if mods are okay, then all forms of cheating are okay because that's what cheating is all about - getting an advantage that others don't have.
