Curiously, last I checked the 79 gear in ShB was just reskins of the level 50 gear from WoD. The level 80 Job Quest gear was the Weathered. Not sure how any of it's a scam, as your words make zero sense since they literally give it to you earlier on and let it scale even. If anything, that's a boon.

Funny enough the crafted gearset we got just 4 weeks later was a reskin of the Mt Gulg gear, and thus the gear from WoD, and it was dyable.. That Mt. Gulg gearset really had some incredible longevity to it.
