Who said you need to do leves? I didn't do any leves. I just killed regular mobs. I would rethink that today, since leves are juicier in $$ and xp. Back in 2010 they weren't.I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned or asked how 1-50 will be achieved in version 2.0. I have read all the documentation about version 2.0 and I cannot see any new quest systems or levelling content mentioned. This greatly worries me as doing levequests for 50 levels is not very enjoyable for the majority of players. Many like me were turned off by the levequest system during launch, I worry this will happen in ps3 release also. I know many of you might not care as you are already maxed 50. But having a good 1-50 experience is key to designing a good modern mmorpg.
I am hoping for some general answers from Square Enix about any new questing systems, grinding party systems or updated levequests?
Remove PL
Extend Leveling Process x10
Leves are 1/4 as fast as a full EXP PT
6/6 instead of 8/8
More focus on powerful mobs instead of multiple weaker puff bags
Bring back level sync
10,000 years of Peace and Prosperity
In general, I hope they:
- Reward teaming up and good teamwork.
- Punish exploitation and exploiters
- Mitigate the grind as much as possible
- Focus on story, and mix that into the experience as much as possible
- Rather than Quests cause events, Have Events cause quests.
It isn't just about leves, it's about the quests, grinding, and lack of innovative new content which is integrated with story and events. Getting power leveled and grinding on raptors are not "fun" or proper ways of an enjoyable leveling experience. I think people are missing the point and not understanding that new players will be very frustrated/bored with the current leveling systems. I am not the one saying I want a broad player base and to become a top class mmorpg in a global market... thats Square Enix doing the talking. I'm just asking how will this stand up to current gen mmorpgs. What is Square Enix going to do about this? People can white knight the game all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that the current system will not attract new players.
dont think we will hear much about 2.0 till after the e3 video at best. but when the beta comes we'll find out.
I'm hoping the pace stays the same...its actually not to bad...but i would like for them to change the party and battle mechanics to be similar like XII'm not sure if anyone has mentioned or asked how 1-50 will be achieved in version 2.0. As a new player (I played at release, but started again less than a month ago) I've already reached level 42 without any PLing.
Leves are a good way to make decent EXP and at the same time make some gil (I'm sure at level 50 crafting, you can dwarf it easily) In many games, they make it hard to make money at the same time as leveling up, which makes you feel as if, even though you're getting more powerful, you're still stagnant. I personally like Leves a lot, they're all pretty varied (again for a new player) and they provide a challenge.
I've been playing with 2 irl friends, and we've been leveling up together, a lot of our EXP came from quests and partying. Leveling up hasn't been too grindy yet, it was a bit slow at 20-30 but spacing it out with leves made it more fun.
Hopefully they make leveling actually fun in 2.0 instead of the boring grindfest like it is now.
My thoughts:
1. I agree that PL needs to be eliminated. While we're basically in what a lot of people call an "extended, paid beta" I don't have too much animosity for it, but for the game's long term success, it can't just be a race to level cap through PL.
2. Leves/Dungeons/Groups/PVP/Quests - This should all be included in the levelling process. However, I'd like to see a more natural progression, such as leve's that send you to Toto-rak, or leve's that gain a bigger xp bonus with more people (kinda like old leve-linking). Personally, some of my favorite ways to level in other MMO's in group dungeons, be it random or with guildies.
3. Balance, balance, balance. If one type of xp method dominates the entire grind to level cap, the player base will adopt that as the primary (or only) way to level. Again, I'm hoping the zone redesigns allow for natural progression by a variety of content, it would even be cool if mixing up xp levelling activities provided some sort of xp bonus.
4. The current state of leveling, pre-2.0 - I've taken my time leveling classes. I have one 50, and one 42, as well as several classes in the 10-25 range. I try to use all methods available, except "questing" because the quest system is a bit inefficient in its current state. Right now, I feel solo leve's and xp parties provide the right balance in xp gain per hour. Parties are faster than leve's, but leve's CAN be used to solo (most of my 50 con was leve's, my 42 mrd has been variety). However, the dungeon gaps and motivations for dungeons make them fairly useless for levelling. 25-45 there are no dungeons, which makes that portion of leveling boring without good xp groups.
Gungnir, gugnir, gungir, Odin's weapon.
I like leves. Join EXP parties if you don't like them. I figure they will be more prevalent after 2.0 with redesigned areas and mob distribution.
