That crap better be kept far away from FFXIV, because if this game starts using crypto and NFTs, it will be the one thing that makes me unsub for good.

SE is much bigger than just FF. If it gets into anything it'll be 'service' games, likely mobile stuff, things like First Soldier.
I'd be very surprised if it had anything to do with FF14 or 16, beyond maybe some completely seperate Y'shtola art or something.
I said as much in another thread, though if the embracing of such business practices is some unforgivable sin/deeply disturbing move then surely it doesn't matter if it comes to FFXIV, specifically, if the company is embracing it elsewhere?
I am going to sound very ignorant. I really don't understand what an NFT is, and explainations from what i've looked up don't really explain. All i know is that apparently it was done to Stan Lee, which caused outrage among the comic community.
Serious question as I know nothing about NFT other than it means non-fungible token. Is it something that's required to participate in or would it be completely optional ala Mogstation? If people want to spend real money on optional things, I've got no issue with that. If a game publisher starts requiring spending real money on top of a subscription to have access to the full game (retainers not included) then I've got an issue.
its no different then any other microtransaction, just because it gets added to the game does not mean you are forced to buy it.
I don't understand it myself, in fact this if the first I've heard of it.Serious question as I know nothing about NFT other than it means non-fungible token. Unless someone can tl;dr it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-fungible_token

Lets say it came to FFXIV
The most obvious method would be attaching them to things like Glamour items and emotes to start with. And then allow Companies or Individuals to create the glamour or emote and sell them with the NFT attached too it. SE would have some form of approval process before allowing it too be sold. And they would be limited in number, lets say 1000 of them. And then anyone else that wants the thing in question would have to buy it off the other player, most likely for a much higher rate.
Square would obviously have some sort of commission for reselling, lets say 5% for each transaction. Which allows them to profit off other peoples work and all future transactions of that NFT going forward.
Honestly I think most people would be onboard this at first. As it would be toted as a way to support the creators of the items.
Where it goes from there? Who knows, they could start attaching it housing items, the houses themselves, mounts? Just use your imagination
For those of us who lived through the release of horse armor, you can see why a lot of us don't like where this is going. Because its going to quickly become an enormous circus.
And the worst part, is they could achieve this same goal of allowing modders and creators to profit off their work with a simple addon shop. Sell the stuff for a set price with them taking a cut, and have none of the NFT crap attached too it. They are literally already doing this with the new 3D audio addon thing. Which has been handled poorly from my understanding. But you get the point. Plus there would be no artificial scarcity involved.

FFXIV is on Steam and Steam has banned all NFTs from their platform. We should be safe because of that. Plus, I believe Yoshi-P would fight against it in the 1st place.
thank you for reassuring me, it seems this won't have any effect on the dungeons or story or trials, or any content that actually matters. I can continue playing worry free.Lets say it came to FFXIV
