    New Player On FFXIV

    Hello, everyone! =D

I'm new to XIV and didn't have a chance to wander around Gridania as much as I wanted yet. But I have already searched the forums and the internet for a few insights on classes and jobs, but couldn't find anything that wasn't outdated.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post! I thought about the classes/jobs forums, but there is no generic one, so being a newbie I decided to post here.

My favorite classes in FF series are red mage, blue mage, summoner, beastmaster and geomancer (the most awesome one!), which I know are not in this game, especially pet classes. But I wonder: is it possible to play as a "magic melee" or debuffer class that fits any of these concepts yet?

I got interested in Dragoon, Paladin and Black Mage so far =D

Thank you already for any advice and sorry for the long post!

Can't really help you as you level cause they have changed combat 2 times since I capped all my jobs. So here is how 50's currently work, Blackmage are always needed yet costly to gear, Whitemage is can get by in full AF and is always needed, Bards can get away with some AF and is cheap to gear & are usually needed in everything, Dragoon is..well can't say cause I haven't used it since I got AF but seem weak and misses alot but is fun to use but can't be used in to much endgame,.Monks are fun you can get away with full AF so cheap to gear and are fun to play. They can be used in some endgame content but not partial ideal. Warriors are the current tank of choice as they can take a hit & dish out decent damage to keep hate on 1 or many enemies. Their able to use AF on most thing but would need a tank set so can be costly. Paladin... Anyways Goodrich hope it helps.

Not really. If you want a melee class that can do some debuffing and has some magical influence, I'd go with MNK. Their Fists of X abilities give them elemental attack and various combo moves can slow, stun, or blind the enemy.

Yeah unLike XI you have 5 melee classes and 2 mage, an odd and unbalanced for starting classes.

Oh yes by the way classes are easier to solo with as jobs are better for party based content. Although I haven't done to much on classes cause jobs are fun.

°note° For monk I just use Hundred fist with Garuda talons & watch the magic. :-P

that depends on how many classes you have lvled. if you only have the class and sub class's for job then you may as well use the job. Also some jobs are also better at soloing then their class counterpart, like blm(mainly because convert is more handy then anything youll get from another class)
