I'm not "delusional" about anything. I'm out of the loop. But at the same, I don't see the issue. And from what I understand, the issue ain't even here yet. Everyone needs to chill.
Here, I'll help you. In the past as a gamer, if you went to the store and bought a game, you got a complete finished product. Period. Games didn't release in a broken mess that they could fix later(or never) while raking in money hand over fist. That happened when gaming moved primarily to digital. It also came along with early access gaming as the big corporations saw that people would throw money at developers despite their games being unfinished and broken.
Then we saw micro transactions begin with simple DLC content. We were told "Don't worry, this is just like an expansion but less so that you don't have to wait so long for new content!" And what has happened over time is that day 1 DLC started happening where they actively removed parts of the finished game to sell it back to us. Then they started adding more and more 'microtransactions' for all sorts of things. Not just content anymore but outfits, items, boosters, etc.
Then they came out with lootboxes and at first it didn't seem so bad. A game like Overwatch seemed very fair with its lootboxes to where if you never bought one it was okay. And overtime companies have continued to expand upon the lootbox mechanics to slowly turn games into virtual casinos with the main focus on making money over gameplay.
NFTs are continuing that trend. They'll tell you how awesome they are, how they can revolutionize gaming, etc. All they are are a way for companies to make more money without doing any work. Ubisoft, right NOW, is selling NFTs in Ghost Recon. All they are are pieces of gear in the game that people have to pay real life money to have. They own that item(with a unique serial number). What does that mean? Nothing. Nothing at all. They own a tiny bit of code and some digital art...but ONLY the version with THEIR serial number on it. A billion other people can buy the exact same item that just has their own serial code attached to it.
Right now it seems like "Okay, so what's the big deal? I just won't buy them and it doesn't affect me." But the problem is that this is how EVERY scummy anti-consumer practice in video games has started. Every single one of them started by making it seem like it wasn't a huge deal. Players get made apathetic to it while whales continue to give the companies money for nothing. Eventually the companies push developers to incorporate the new money making scheme into their games. That's how we got ingame stores in full priced AAA titles. And it will happen with NFTs as well.
I'm a bit lost. Has there been any official info about NFTs going to be used in FFXIV? How will they be used?
I mean, I want to get angry too, but I need to know the facts first.

Not in FF14 itself, but the wording in the CEO's statement and disregard of concerns over NFT's as reactionary has led many people to voice their concerns ahead of time. For right now we don't know if NFTs will ever come to FF14. And for that matter they very well might not given how FF14 is sold on Steam and Steam has anti-NFT policies in place that require no small amount of hoop jumping to get around. However it is not far-fetched to assume that any moderate success with NFTs in other SE owned games would see a push for them to be added to FF14.
Aah, I see. I'm not a fan of SE outside FFXIV (and I'm certainly not planning to buy their €80 remakes for pc), so I can't say I'm surprised. For now, I'll be cautious and observe what they plan to do with NFTs, if they end up doing anything at all.

That line speaks to me alot. In the early 2000's you actually owned a physical copy of your game. You didn't have to endlessly update your game because the developers couldn't be arsed to finish their product. I also think the slow march of everything being digital has significantly contributed to the downfall of this industry. There were expections that had to be met. Developers had to work days only to deliever the best possible experience until launch. Most of the time, what you had was an awesome experience. Here, I'll help you. In the past as a gamer, if you went to the store and bought a game, you got a complete finished product. Period. Then came the Horse Armor with Oblivion. Small DLC's that on the surface didn't seem like much harm. It opened the path to worse however. Now take a good look at EA and the Sims series and that's how bad things have gotten.
Don't know much about NFT but can we just go back to playing games that were made with passion? Like that's a foreign concept. What happened to developers that wanted to delight and entertain? Companies treat consumers like we're not supposed to know better and hey that's good for us. Very depressing times indeed.
That's not how NFTs work. A link to the item and history of ownership exists on the blockchain, not the item itself.
You would have proof that you own the digital item linked at:
<www.ffxiv.nft/I_bought_an_NFT_and_all_I_got_was_this_stupid_T-shirt>
If the web host went down, your NFT is gone. If the web host changes the link, your NFT changes.
Am I the only person who doesnt understand what an NFT is and how it will be added to the game? From what I understand its a crypto currency but why is it bad if you get multiple ways to pay for the game?
NFT is a pic (for example a pic of yshtola) with an attachment or whatever that proves that you are the owner of that said thing, not the copyrights though if that isn't explicitly said you don't own that. Then you sell it to the next person for a bit more and it goes higher and higher and higher.
But what creators actually do is selling it to a friend for like 50 dollars and that friend sells it to another friend for like 200 and then to another one for 1000 so the money never leaves the friend circle. Until someone from outside buys into it at which point you make thousands of dollars in net profit and the NFT becomes a dangerous gamble and whoever will hold it last is the one that loses basically all their money and is stuck with a worthless pic.
So basically it is a scam, plain old and simple. Artificial price inflation like you see on the stockmarket sometimes. Until it crashes down and leaves a bunch of people ruined.
And a NFT is no currency, it is like a stockmarket share. You can sell it maybe but you can't buy any shit with it at all. Just that there is no regulated market behind it or anything, if nobody buys your shitty yshtola pic you sit on a yshtola pic you paid 10k dollars for, grats.
