There was some concern about Square CEO's newsletter

    https://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/n...esident_2.html

NFTs are bad, please don't go down this route Square Enix.

I hope the delay to FF16 has nothing do it though some people were speculating it is.

Personally I don't think FF16 has anything to do with the other.

    Edit -

Apparently there was another topic up about this already, disregard this one.

How would NFTs be responsible for FF16 delays?

@Myahele, that is what some people think, but I think that is just fear speaking.

This just screams of "old money" trying to exploit "new money". If the Ubisoft backlash is severe then it might act as a deterrent.

Ultimately it's up to the ppl to call them out on their BS and force their PR teams to work overtime and make them lose money that way. It's a shame no one is using NFT's as digital receipt of a game where you essentially own that digital game regardless of if the service you purchased it from is no longer available. Though I guess that would be giving too much power to the consumer and that would be bad for business and would spur a digital used market boom.

I have a hint for all those disappointed in SE's foray into NFTs:

They don't have to be related to cryptocurrency in any way, shape, or form. I seriously doubt that the NFTs announced back in November's [Yeah, it's been going on a lot longer than you think] presentation of the end-of-September quarterly results will be hosted by the < insert your favorite cryptojunk currency here> system. There's a reason most businesses aren't investing in cryptocurrency but might well invest in the systems necessary to validate tokens.

They do that now: WoW tokens, Fortnite V-Bucks, <insert any in-game currency you can purchase with Real Money >.

Heck, even eMusic was discussing block-chain technologies for decentralizing the sale of music (and payment of royalties) to eliminate the middleman. Back in 2018. I don't think their current efforts revolve around the use of cryptocurrency mining systems.

if there were perhaps an effort to tack on nft dlc using existing assets and content it would cause a delay.
but there is no evidence of that happening. if ffxvi is confirmed for steam it literally cannot have blockchain stuff in it.

SE has a history of bad decisions, the only saving grace we have is that Yoshida has a say in what happens in FFXIV and he might be able to keep that shit off our game.

Nft's use crypto the wrong way. I would even go as far as to say it doesn't even "use" crypto, it can be bought by crypto but it's not crypto itself. Instead of being seen as a token of a bunch of blockchain's data encrypted into it (it's not even doing that, it's not even part of a blockchain), you are just basically buying a link, an adress, not even a piece of the blockchain, just to a jpeg or a gif, not only the art doesn't matter at the end of the link, but the link itself, can be , overtime, made "rotten" or discontinued at some point in the future, not even to talk about the fact that it's not even your property, copyright wise, it has no value about how it's implemented, no trace and trackback to any data or blocks, in the blockchain.

Crypto is already goofy as it is even tho, at least you own it and can trade it whennever you want. But this is worse.

It's really just "thin air" and you put your trust into the company making it "possible" to do anything with it, while they are obviously going to limit it's use. It's ultimate Fanboyism, or should i say, Ploutotechnocratic cybertopia digital faith / feudalism to a brand. People are just getting scam'd out of their money AND crypto for useless drenches.
