summoner pet interactions are kinda fussy.

HELLO! Its my first post ever! I haven't gotten into any Forum posting in a long time and just to preface I am, or was, an avid Wow enthusiast until recently and there isn't much of a friendly forum scene there. Once classic hit tbc I was done and looking for a new place to MMO. FF14 has a wonderful community and a welcomed change to WOW.

Onto the topic at hand: Summoner changes and the changes in pet management. I played Summoner thru Shadowbringers and really loved its play style. Pets were a bit frustrating sometimes but like most pet classes across many MMOs it was to be expected and with some timing and patience was easy to pull off great numbers and be an effective support as well. Endwalker saw a load of changes including a complete rework of summoner. Personally I love the new rework.

That being said I have encountered some interesting quirks and I am curious if this has been addressed already. I bring these up to hopefully see some changes in game if needed or to find a way to mitigate or properly manage my pets. One issue is with the pets Bahamut and Phoenix. Their location in relation to the targeted enemy can effect the speed and response time of the casting of Enkindle. Upon summons of either of the two you gain access to two powerful nukes 'Astral Flow' and 'Enkindle'. The former cast from the player and the latter cast comes from the pet itself. 'Enkindle Bahamut/Phoenix' becomes 'Akh Morn' for Bahamut and 'Revelation' for Phoenix. 'Astral Flow' becomes 'DeathFlare' for Bahamut and 'Rekindle' for Phoenix. My issues are with Enkindle, the one that is cast from the pet. For whatever reason either Phoenix or Bahamut need to be standing right next to you or very near to cast Enkindle on the target. With that in mind you can actually summon Bahamut and cast Enkindle (Akh Morn) and run away from Bahamut and he will not cast it at all as he cant reach you and eventually he disappears after his time is up. the CD on Enkindle still goes off.

Bahamut summons from the exact location that the spell is triggered. So should u happen to be moving around it will take a moment for him to reach you and then cast 'Akh Morn'. This same behavior happens with Phoenix.

I hope my explanation is clear enough that it can be repeated by others at a 'striking dummy'. I bring this up as I get a feeling that this is incorrect and perhaps some adjustments need to be made in game to remove or adjust the distance required between myself and Bahamut/Phoenix before Enkindle is actually cast on the target. Why would Bahamut or Phoenix need to be right next to me in order to cast 'Enkindle' on the target? Does anyone else find this behavior a bit off? is anyone else experiencing the same behaviors?

So these are my thoughts and this being my first forum post I hope I haven't made too many Forum faux pas. :P I look forward to hearing from other summoners or anyone really that feels they can add to the discussion.

Bahamut and Phoenix will now stay put where they are summoned - they will not move towards you. I have not noticed issues with attack delays with the reworks. So, I mean, as long as you remain close to the boss there will be no problems. Deathflare and Ahk Morn have similar animations. It is possible they can overlap, but from personal experience, they both go off if pay attention to the number of 'towers of light' on the target. The only delays that remain are from Ifirit-Egi and Titan-Egi (note: non-90 summons) because they need to be in range first (which is why you should just stay in melee range, plus you get a tiny amount of benefit from auto-attacks).

I agree on the auto attack its a minimal percent increase but might as well pick it up. I base this info of certain actions not going off based on the information in the battle log and not just visual ques. I did do a bit of 'r and d' before bringing this here. Yes Bahamut summons exactly where you were when u pressed that button and if u move far enuff away he will try to come towards you, while still being in range of the target. He will ignore the command to execute Enkindle until he gets within a few yalms of u. its like you gotta whisper it to him quietly so he know to go boom on the target. See for yourself repeat the steps I am talking about here and u will find u can outrun this dynamic and enkindle will never go off. Its a silly point I know but it seem the summoner reworks really went all out on mobility. Its only Enkindle, that I have found so far that does this. Guess its just something to keep an eye on. I love the new changes. first time ive enjoyed playing a 'pet class' if u can still call it that. This is all still occurring as of 1/5/2022, my hope that it would be fixed with this patch did not get fulfilled.
