I can't wait for this garbage bubble to explode and people lose their money.
Thankfully, I have no intention in touching NFTs or anything related to that scam. Want my money? Give me things I can actually use (like a Y'shtola mousepad, idk) or books about the lore/cookbooks, but miss me with that chocobo dung that are NFTs.
Crypto is cool, it is just a new gold rush, why hate on it so much? Leave my profits alone! I was able to pay back my student loans in 3 years with crypto.
I specifically focused on other problematic aspects of crypto (rampant fraud and increasing financialization of games) in my OP because I've seen far too many crypto supporters believe they can easily deflect the environmental argument.
I remember someone saying a quote once that went along the lines of this:
"If you truly wanted to live your life without using any product that was harmful to the environment in some way, you would be butt naked in a gutter drinking rain water."
the rampant fraud (which i totally agree with) has NOTHING to do with consuming energy. The fraud comes from venture capitalists and marketers drumming up hype for something they've already given themselves the majority of so they can dump when the hype reaches critical height. Has nothing to do with energy, proof of work, block chain, etc. it is just a flat out scam. 99.9% of it.
SE, has had such a success and strong expansion by Endwalker, was so disappointing to start the New Year reading this letter, seems like is a matter of time before NFT Y'stola become available for purchase, such a disappointment.
I know this. Rampant fraud, theft, Ponzi schemes, and the like, are other problems endemic to crypto in general. The evidence is overwhelming. However, there's no reason to believe that, just because SE would be involved, things would be any different for a crypto scheme operated by SE. Users would still have their wallets stolen, exposed to fraudulent side projects masquerading as relating to SE, and the like. This problem is intrinsic to crypto, and thus completely unavoidable. How is the consumer well served by the addition of crypto to gaming, then?
